An Academy Award-winning actor from England, Gary Oldman is well-known for his classic roles as Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour, Commissioner Gordon in The Dark Knight trilogy, and Sirius Black in Harry Potter. However, Oldman's story of recovering alcoholism is equally captivating off-screen.
His difficulties reached their zenith in the 1990s, and in 1991 he was arrested for DUI. Oldman went to rehab in 1994 in search of change, and he has now celebrated more than 25 years sober. He attributes his stability to Alcoholics Anonymous.
In addition to dispelling the stigma, Oldman's openness encourages people to face their struggles head-on with bravery and resiliency.
