Dementia affects memory, thinking, and communication and no two days look the same. Some moments may feel calm and familiar, while others can bring confusion or worry.

Marshall reminds us that compassionate dementia care starts with patience. Meeting someone where they are, focusing on feelings instead of facts, offering reassurance, and respecting their reality can help someone feel safe, seen, and supported.

There’s no need to correct, argue, or explain. What matters most is how a person feels in the moment and responding with kindness, comfort, and understanding.
