Bruce’s Success Story: Prior to beginning therapy, my child's experience with school was challenging, and he didn't feel confident in his abilities. Since then, he has shown significant improvement and increased enthusiasm for reading. He is now able to track and follow along more effectively, resulting in reduced frustration. His reading proficiency has progressed from early kindergarten/first grade levels to approximately the 70th percentile as a second grader. This demonstrates substantial growth in his reading skills. Additionally, he is now more willing to engage in reading activities at home, often initiating and suggesting them independently.

Success story for Hezekiah: Prior to undergoing therapy, my child found it extremely challenging to engage in any academic work in the afternoon, often expressing frustration with the phrase "I can't." Although my son previously enjoyed reading, he has since remarked that it has become significantly easier for him. He was unaware of the strain his eyes were experiencing prior to therapy. Since completing the program, we have observed marked improvements in reading fluency, spelling, and handwriting. Additionally, there have been substantial enhancements in his athletic performance, including catching, hitting, and shooting accuracy in basketball. Notably, we have also witnessed significant growth in his persistence and confidence; he now understands that he is capable of overcoming difficult tasks, and that perseverance in the face of challenges yields positive results.

Aurora's Vision Therapy Journey

Aurora's right eye turned inward and wouldn't track with her left eye, requiring her to hold reading material very close. After months of patching with little progress, we opted for vision therapy, having confidence from family experiences at VEO. After six weeks, the therapist suggested a six-month break due to Aurora's young age. Upon resuming with Miss Camie, their personalities matched well, and they worked effectively together. Initially, Aurora could only walk a few steps heel-to-toe, but later managed to walk a 10-foot line without breaking stride. As her right eye straightened, she was able to move reading materials to a more normal distance. A few months in, she exclaimed, "My eyes are working together!"-a clear sign of improved tracking.

There was ongoing consideration for surgery, but Dr. Sparacino aimed for optimal results first. Her expertise revealed further needed corrections. After getting new glasses, Aurora confidently called for the basketball during a game for the first time, improving her court movement and teamwork. The new lenses likely enhanced her depth perception, which was a focus of therapy exercises. Follow-up exams ruled out the need for surgery, and previously unmeasured assessments were completed. As therapy concluded, Aurora excelled in machine pitch softball, demonstrating her tracking and depth perception skills. She now reads at or above grade level with fluency and often independently, even tackling some books without her glasses.

Success Story for Zoe! Before starting therapy, our daughter experienced frequent headaches and had difficulty with attention and reading, which left us puzzled. Following a referral from her doctor, we visited Child and Family Eye Care for an evaluation to determine if she could benefit from vision therapy. Although we initially felt overwhelmed, the staff provided clear explanations regarding her diagnosis and its potential impact on her challenges. We are pleased to report that her teacher has noted significant improvements in her reading scores and attention span, and her headaches have completely resolved. This therapy has made a remarkable difference in her life. Thank you!

Another success story! Vision therapy has significantly benefited my son, Dayton. Previously, he was experiencing headaches almost daily, which often prompted the school nurse to contact me regarding his condition. The frequency and severity of these headaches became so concerning that the nurse began sending him home. However, after just a few weeks of eye therapy, we observed a noticeable reduction in both the frequency and intensity of his headaches. With additional time in the program, he is now experiencing only occasional headaches.

In addition, Dayton has faced challenges with reading and was previously behind his peers. This year, however, he is closer to grade level than ever before. He has expressed that reading has become easier and more enjoyable since completing his eye therapy. While the commitment to eye therapy was demanding, the positive results have made it immensely worthwhile. Thank you for your support in helping my son achieve his full potential!

Rylan completed Vision Therapy and this is his success story. Over the year, we have observed our son facing challenges in his academic pursuits. Initially, we wondered if the underlying issues might be behavioral; however, we are aware of his capabilities and strengths. We realized there was an additional factor we had not yet identified. Following the completion of vision therapy, our son has now reached grade level and is progressing alongside his peers.
