Sacroiliac Pain Relief Walking Method
Many of my sacroiliac (SI joint) low back pain patients are surprised to learn that changing the way they walk can have a significant impact on their pain and SI joint stability. The sacroiliac joint is commonly stressed when the hips excessively sway sideways while walking. This habit leads to a chronic weakness of the hip muscles (gluteus medius) that perpetuate sacroiliac joint stress and back pain.
By modifying walking form to vertically lengthen the waist, keeping the weight bearing hip inwards as it passes over the weight bearing foot, SI stress is relieved. You will walk taller (as far as comfort allows) with each weight bearing step as you practice this technique. This modification prevents the side to side sway that repetitively micro-stresses the sacroiliac joint.
By lengthening the waist and staying as tall as possible on the weight bearing side, SI pain can be relieved both immediately and prevented from re-occurring, as proper hip and spine mechanics are repetitively practiced. As in all new exercises, it should be introduced gradually to avoid over straining the hip muscles as they strengthen. Always check with your own doctor to be sure it is safe for your unique sacroiliac condition.

🔥 Low back pain is common and for many of us occurs on a regular basis and can become chronic.

☝️NOTE: To perform an appropriate posterior pelvic tilt flatten your back against the surface in which you are lying. If you feel yourself losing this tilt during these exercises then either shorten the duration of the exercise or decrease the range of motion in which your arms and legs are moving.

📍 I recommend these exercises to be timed starting at 30 seconds and working up to 2 minutes. These are endurance muscles, not power muscles. 🤙

Regular exercise is the best way to treat back pain, a major study has concluded.
Stretching, muscle exercises and stamina training are far more successful at tackling lower back pain than other treatments, scientists found.
Patients who carried out a range of exercises had a 35 per cent reduced risk of lower back complaints over 12 months, the researchers reported.
And when patients did exercises and were also taught the best way to lift heavy items and sit properly, their risk of pain was reduced by 45 per cent.
Experts said today that if a drug were available that achieved the same result, it would be heavily marketed.
Other treatments - such as lumbar support belts and shoe insoles - had no benefit, the researchers found.
Lower back pain affects four of every five people at some point in their life.
Most cases are caused by lifting a heavy object badly, or bending awkwardly, and in most instances the pain will go away within a few weeks.
But half of patients see a recurrence of the problem within 12 months.
And for some people back pain can last for years or come back in waves.
In this study, scientists at the University of Sydney analysed the results of 23 previous studies, involving 30,850 people, in a bid to narrow down the best way to treat back pain.
