Endocrine-disrupting chemicals are found in everyday products such as cosmetics, food and beverage packaging, pesticides, plastics, household cleaners, carpets, consumer goods, and industrial materials.
EDCs create chaos for the endocrine system by mimicking hormones and tricking a cell's hormone receptors. This triggers unwanted hormonal responses and throws hormones out of balance.
Three key hormones disrupted by EDCs in women:
- Estrogen, leading to hot flashes, irregular periods, weight gain, uterine fibroids, breast tenderness, headaches, bloating, dry skin, low libido, and mood swings.
- Progesterone, which will increase insomnia, anxiety, irritability, PMS, and irregular cycles.
- Cortisol, causing blood sugar imbalances, weight gain, and sleep issues.
