PCS (Personal Care Services) fits into something much larger called HCBSโHome and Community-Based Services.
HCBS is Kansas Medicaid's way of saying: You don't have to move into a nursing home to get help.
If you or your loved one meet the income and medical guidelines, you may qualify for an HCBS waiver. PCS is covered under both the Physical Disability waiver and the Frail and Elderly waiver.
So how do you know if you qualify?
First, there's an assessment. A state-approved nurse or case manager comes to your home and assesses what you need help withโbathing, moving safely, or any other personal tasks.
Important: Be honest during the assessment. Don't leave out any details because nothing is too small. Your hours are based on YOUR assessment.
Remember: When life changes (surgery, fall, new medication, moving), you can be reassessed. Your support needs may go up or down.
You don't have to figure this out alone. We're here to help you navigate your or your loved one's care.
