Dr Christina Gonzalez

Dr Christina Gonzalez I’m a wife, a mom, and a doctor in El Dorado, KS. There is a ton of health information floating around out there.

My aim is to use my knowledge to be a trusted source for relevant and reliable health information for our community.

Very well said.

Please please be aware that politics is not science. Medicine is both an art and a science. The way we care for our patients based on our current knowledge isn’t how we’ll care for patients in even 10 years, but as physicians and researchers we are doing our best with the knowledge that we have. We don’t treat based on opinions or feelings, but on knowledge gained through decades of training and centuries of every growing knowledge of the human body. We should not be placing our trust in health care decisions for our nation in the hands of those whose motivations are not based in knowledge, but politically and financially driven.

More than 98% of families in this country choose to vaccinate their young children.

But now, vaccine policy is being shaped by the small, extreme minority that doesn’t.

All 17 independent vaccine experts—scientists and doctors who’ve spent their careers protecting children—have been fired. Not because the science changed, but because ideology took its place.

In their seats now are individuals who not only lack the expertise we need to guide vaccine policy, but who have a track record of spreading vaccine misinformation.

This decision doesn’t reflect families. It doesn’t reflect science. It strips away the trusted voices parents rely on and replaces them with anti-vaccine activism.

That’s not protecting families. That’s taking away their power to make informed decisions—and putting kids at risk.

This weekend I was able to attend the inaugural Butler County Women In Business Gala. I’m so excited for this new group dedicated to supporting and advancing women in business in our area. I went last minute solo, which was an excellent way to make new connections, and even won in the raffle!

Growing up I would have balked at the idea of being an entrepreneur and business owner… but I also said I’d never want to be a doctor or open my own practice! Now I’m grateful, proud, and thankful that God knew better than to listen to my fears and doubts. Hope Family Medicine has been an immense blessing for our family as well as a vital part of our community.

And now -due to vaccine hesitancy- it’s making a comeback. 😢

Our generation doesn’t know the true impact that vaccines have made in preventing some of the deadliest diseases from just a few generations ago.

After 6,000 people died from whooping cough in 1932, three extraordinary women stepped forward to confront this deadly disease. The three women -- scientists Pearl Kendrick and Grace Eldering and their research assistant Loney Clinton Gordon -- who developed a vaccine for pertussis, also known as whooping cough, became public health legends who were honored with this sculpture at the Michigan State University Research Center.

With thousands of children dying annually from the disease -- more than from diphtheria, scarlet fever, tuberculosis or polio -- "it’s difficult to explain just how desperate people were for a [whooping cough] vaccine at this time,” says historian Carolyn Shapiro-Shapin. When their vaccine was ready for field testing in 1934, parents volunteered their children in droves, hoping to protect them from the horrors of the deadly "100 day cough." It's estimated that today, the vaccine saves half a million lives annually.
