๐ŸŒŸ Board Member Spotlight: Monique Garcia ๐ŸŒŸ

We are excited to celebrate one of our incredible board members, Monique Garcia, for being recognized at KUโ€™s 2025 Homecoming Awards and receiving the Wintermote National Volunteer of the Year honor!

Monique is not only a dedicated leader here at AbilityPoint, but also a lifelong mentor and advocate for students through the KU Alumni network. Her commitment to service, community, and lifting others up shines through everything she does.

We are so proud to have Monique on our board and grateful for the passion she brings to supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities across South-Central Kansas.

Please join us in congratulating Monique on this amazing achievement! โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’™

YESS grad and Shooting Star Self Advocate Chris Leon has been doing his part to support our veterans. He efforts to raise funds for the Kansas Honor Flight organization has inspired many and raised over $100,000 for the great work they do.

Thank you KWCH 12 News for sharing Chris's story. Chris and Pat are amazing volunteers for AbilityPoint as well.

A huge shout out to Allmetal Recycling, LLC for their part in supporting Chris, our veterans and our community.

Recap post #3! Last night we hosted our thanksmas mini tour! We enjoyed a Thanksgiving meal cooked by Joe and Brittany followed by an evening of chaos ball white elephant and our tradition - a Saran wrapped gift ball.
We had a super cool end to our night when we got to see the northern lights!

Our Story

The Arc of Sedgwick County makes a difference in the lives of individuals and families living with intellectual and developmental disabilities. For 65 years, The Arc has promoted their general welfare, fostered the development of programs on their behalf and increased the publicโ€™s awareness and acceptance. We provide educational programs and social experiences for youth and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.

Our nonprofit organization began in 1953 in a grassroots effort by parents concerned about services and future opportunities for their children and the families and children of tomorrow. They had a vision for community based services. They thrived off of teamwork as they collaborated with and supported each other. The future generations have benefited from their passion and advocacy to achieve a better life for their kids and a better community to provide opportunities.
