Veterans at Dole VA’s Substance Abuse Residential Rehabilitation and Treatment Facility (SARRTF) recently crafted vibrant tie-dye shirts to show their support for VA and Dole VA staff.

With logistical support from program coordinator Patrick Osborne, the Veterans planned the activity themselves, turning it into a fun team-building exercise that fostered a sense of belonging while supporting their recovery journey.

“[Their] enthusiasm for this project was inspiring,” Osborne said. “It gave them a chance to connect, create, and show gratitude while building skills for their recovery.”

Dole VA’s SARRTF program provides 24/7 care for Veterans with substance use disorders, offering evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral therapy and mutual-help groups. The 6-week program provides enrolled Veterans with personalized recovery plans that address mental health, medical, and social needs like housing and employment.

As a woman Veteran, your risk factors for breast cancer may vary. VA recommends average risk women start screening for breast cancer with mammography at age 40 (a change from VA’s previous recommendation to start at 45). New science shows that more lives can be saved from breast cancer by starting screening earlier.
VA also now recommends that women aged 40-74 get screened for breast cancer every two years. You may choose to get a mammogram every year. For 74+, you can talk with your health care provider about risks and benefits.
By getting routine mammograms you may be able to detect breast cancer early and get treatment before it spreads. Mammogram costs are covered for Veterans receiving care at VA. https://www.womenshealth.va.gov
