Sometimes things just line up the right way. 🇺🇸🥩🔥

Long story short, got connected with what the kids today would call “the plug.” 🔌 A large shipment of steaks originally meant for military personnel heading out on a mission became available after the mission was canceled.

We jumped on the opportunity and bought them for a great price with one goal in mind — giving back to our Wichita firefighters as a small thank-you for the support of us, their sacrifice, and hard work they put into this community every single day. 🚒❤️

Brian and Keenan hand delivered these to EVERY station so all 66 crews + training could enjoy a steak this week!

Figured the crews deserved a break from the occasional “grab-and-go grocery store special” 😅🥩

Just a little token of appreciation for the people always showing up when others need them most. 👊🏼

This is just food, like we said just a little something….We are always working behind the scenes for the members of

Special thanks to our board and supporters, we couldn’t do these things without them!

We’re proud to continue finding ways to support the men and women of WFD both on and off the job.

The meeting tonight has been rescheduled for 5/20. I’m going to start trying something different and do one in the afternoon here and there just to see how we like it. I want to make sure people are home in the evenings with their families as much as possible. NEXT UCF MEETING IS 5/20 @ 12 PM!

With May being Mental Health Awareness Month, the timing couldn’t be better. ⏰

Beyond The Call is proud to prioritize the mental health of our firefighters and their families—because taking care of our own matters. 💪🧠🔥

The program's intention is to help firefighters maintain their health in both their bodies and their brains.

Big things happening 🔥

Beyond the Call partnered with Wichita State University’s Psychology Department to bring real, meaningful mental health education directly to our firefighters.

Over the past few months, this program was built from the ground up—designed specifically for the fire service. 9 members of WFD stepped up and committed to learning, growing, and being better for themselves and each other.

We tackled the hard topics:
🧠 Identity
💥 Trauma
🍺 Substance use
👨‍👩‍👧 Family dynamics
😴 Sleep
⚠️ Su***de awareness

This wasn’t just a class—it was about learning what to look for, how to show up for your people, and taking a hard look in the mirror at how we can improve ourselves.

Huge thank you to our friends at Wichita State for the grant writing and the work behind the scenes to make this happen. This is just the beginning of a partnership that we believe will make a lasting impact across the entire department.

We’re building something bigger than us—and we’re just getting started. 💪

Thanks Ascension Via Christi!

Beyond The Call WFD has donated nearly $4,000 to Via Christi to support medical resources and screenings for local first responders through the Wichita Firefighter Wellness program.

Launched in February 2025, the Wichita Firefighter Wellness program provides Wichita firefighters and investigators with streamlined access to annual cancer screenings, cardiac and pulmonary testing, and comprehensive wellness exams. The program addresses the specific occupational hazards faced by fire personnel, whose work increases their risk for serious conditions such as cancer, lung disease and heart disease.

“We are incredibly grateful for this gift from Beyond the Call,” said Keisha Humphries, Via Christi's director of Oncology and Pulmonary Services. “The donation directly supports the specialized screenings and preventive care necessary to protect the health of those who serve our community every day.”

In addition to screenings, program participants receive support from a dedicated nurse navigator who guides them through the process, helping catch potential health concerns before they become serious. By prioritizing preventive wellness, the program helps ensure Wichita’s firefighters can continue serving the community at the highest level possible.

“Firefighters face risks that don’t end when the call is over, and the long-term impact on their health is real, measurable and too often overlooked,” said Dal Gains, co-founder of Beyond the Call. “We are proud to support Via Christi in helping to ensure that the people who protect our communities have every opportunity to live long, healthy lives.”
Beyond the Call also supports firefighters through its nonprofit gym, Station Zero, which provides fitness opportunities, camaraderie and peer-led support groups focused on mental health needs.
