Angela Heckrotte, LCMFT, RWT I am a therapist providing therapy services for individuals looking to improve their journey in life through movement and mindfulness.

I am a licensed clinical marriage and family therapist and licensed addiction counselor who enjoys working with people of various ages and backgrounds. I use multiple forms of therapy, including cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy and motivational interviewing, that tailors to each persons needs and goals. Cortisol is the stress hormone in our body. When cortisol remains high for days, weeks, months and years; it begins to impact every organ in our body and we become less healthy, less resilient and more unhappy. Here are simple ways to reduce cortisol on a hourly and daily basis. This along with therapy can significantly reduce your cortisol levels by learning how to manage stress in your life and heal from trauma.

Stress resides in our body and affects our sleep. We need to remember that not every task needs to be done all at the same time. We can take it one task at a time and then take the one task and break it up into smaller steps to complete the bigger task. Give yourself credit and celebrate the small accomplishments as you complete each step allowing yourself to feel that point of achievement and accomplishment and to be able to be proud of yourself and taking and completing even the small steps toward the larger task.

If everything is overwhelming and you need help even trying to break something small down or it’s too much and you’re struggling; shoot me an email. I’d love to work with you and to help you move through it.

When violent incidents in communities circulate online the psychological toll on viewers, especially youth and marginalized populations, can be intense. These events are no longer confined to a specific geographic area; instead, they are broadcast widely, often without warning, through social media platforms. This constant exposure to trauma can heighten anxiety, fear, helplessness, and in many cases, contribute to feelings of despair and suicidal ideation.

Remember to take a break and check in with your loved ones. Sedgwick County COMCARE would like to remind you of these 4 tips you should follow when helping someone in need.
Listen to what your loved one is saying. Talk openly and nonjudgmentally. Let them know you care and be present in the moment.
Connect with mental health resources in your community.
Ask how you can help.
Remember to take care of yourself as well. Do something that reduces your stress such as going on a walk, taking deep breaths, coloring and more.

Remember help is always available! Call 9-8-8 and you will be connected with a trained cris call taker who is ready to listen to you.

A moment of remembrance for the day that shifted our country. Each of us will always remember where we were that day and the emotions felt.

Thursday marks 24 years since the day that changed America forever. We will never forget.

Today we talk the “I don’t want to excuse” as we face conditions are not just right or the circumstances are not just right. It is hard and I can do it and so can you. One step/thing/task at a time. I promise we will feel better when that thing is done and no longer causing stress or anxiety.
