I tell my clients to remove “no unnecessary interventions” from their birth plan...Here's why 👇

Anything offered to you in labor will most always be framed as necessary.

And what one provider considers necessary,
another might never recommend at all!

Low-intervention birth isn’t about rejecting every intervention.
It’s about you being the one to decide which choices actually support your goals, beliefs, and values for this birth.

✨ You deserve true informed consent.
✨ You deserve informed choice.
✨ You deserve informed refusal.

Here’s the thing—mossstttttt of the time second babies come much quicker.

But there’s always exceptions to the rule, and this birth was one of them 🥲😅

This is a story from one of my first births I supported as a doula nearly two years ago!

And still. I will forever be impressed by the strength, dedication, and perseverance this mama displayed on that incredibly long day.

The final photo of her roaring her baby out is still one of my favorites, and I think it will always be!

What a perfect display of the fierce strength in motherhood. Women. Are. Warriors. 👏🏻

This is what advocacy can actually look like in labor.

Not yelling.
Not arguing.
Not “being difficult.”

Just asking one clarifying question…
and calmly standing by your answer.

When someone says “we have to”, it’s okay to pause and ask why.

"Parroting" is one of the childbirth advocacy skills I teach my clients to remain calm and in control of their labor -- especially when they're tired and don't want to have a full conversation.

You can do this by simply repeating what you said over and over (calmly) until the message is heard.

P.S. Yes — this is a learned skill! Start practicing NOW, during pregnancy, at the pediatrician, etc. and if you'd like help learning more techniques specific to low-intervention hospital birth, check out my online birth advocacy e-course in bio!

Dads truly make the best advocates in childbirth.

One of the stories that I reference all the time when explaining that to my families comes from the birth of baby C.

Most of us know that “purple pushing” is not always the best way to push your baby out.

It increases pressure in your abdomen and in your pelvic floor, leading to issues like decreased fetal oxygenation and hemorrhoids.

BUT it’s statistically the fastest way to push your baby out which is why it’s the default method of pushing often taught in hospitals

This mama knew she wanted better.

So when the time came for pushing, the nurse starts to explain “purple pushing” technique to my clients.

Here’s where that advocacy piece comes in…

Dad got curious.

He said “wasn’t there another type of pushing we could try?”

And their nurse immediately said “of course!”

And then went on to help explain the other pushing technique to this family.

👉🏻👉🏻 you see, sometimes that’s all it takes. A little curiosity to discover all of your options and put the power back into your hands.

One thing you need to know about me is…
I love me a good spreadsheet 👏🏻😅

This year brought so many new experiences and along with them lessons learned!

I can’t help but feeling pride, gratitude, and excitement as I look back on 2025 and forwards into 2026!

Other notable moments from 2025 include: being a guest speaker on 3 PODCASTS! & partnering with Pelvic PT by Phoenix to teach two Daddy Doula Bootcamps!

🙌🏼 Big things are coming in 2026, so I hope you stick around to follow!

I don’t have many photos of me with my doula babies…in fact, I think out of my 30-40 births in 2025 I have maybe three 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’m not sure why! I guess I take the stance that this baby is your baby. When I come over for a postpartum visit, I don’t ask to hold the baby (because honestly I’d rather be “holding” you—making sure that you’re taken care of so baby can be well taken care of)

And I want to respect how important it is for you to be the one bonding with your baby in those first weeks postpartum!

But if you ask me to hold your baby? I’ll of course immediately say yes! No turning down baby snuggles over here 🙋🏼‍♀️😉

Which is why it’s even more of an honor when parents ask for me to take a photo with their new baby. Most pictures will live privately in my camera roll forever, but this photo was shared with permission.

Being a doula is better than I ever could’ve imagined 🫶🏼

I used to think my calling was into labor and delivery nursing or maybe even midwifery…

But on the day of my job interview I felt very clearly the Holy Spirit telling me “NO” and I’ll be honest…I cried in my car afterwards

I was lost, confused, but still trusted. God had a plan. And plan He had!

Doula work has been the biggest calling and blessing brought into my life…I never could have imagined where these past two years would lead me and even today as I sit dreaming about 2026 I know I will continue to be surprised by all the blessings it brings ☺️

✨ BIRTH STORY!

As you can see, this story is from just over a year ago! But it holds special importance to me that I wanted to share it still for two reasons:

1. It was INCREDIBLE! One of those births that I got home afterwards beaming and high on adrenaline

and 2... this mama has since become one of my closest friends and a fellow birthworker!

God knew what he was doing when he chose me to be her doula, and I hope you enjoy the birth story of baby F!

BIRTH STORY!!! ✨
2025.03.13

As much as I loveeee supporting low-intervention hospital birth, sometimes intervention is necessary for the safety of mom or baby!

I hope this story takes away some of the fear with induction and shows more of the spectrum of beautiful birth stories 🥰

I can’t wait to continue sharing more birth stories on this page, so if you’re not following already be sure to hit that button and stay tuned!! 👉🏻

Are you wanting your partner to be your main support person in labor?

Early labor is usually the longest stage—and so crucial to get it right.

This is the time to prepare your body for what lies ahead.

Here’s what I teach my clients to do: R.E.A.D.

Rest, Eat, Activity, Distract.

Your partner can play an active role by encouraging and reminding you of each of those steps!

While you focus on rest and nourishment, they’re the ones making sure the birth bags are packed and in the car.

And if early labor drags on for days, they can help by planning distractions like a date night or sending you to go get a massage.

This is still part of labor, but not the time to burn out.

✨ Send this to your “daddy doula” and follow for more partner tips for each stage of labor!
