ℹ️🌿 HOW TO STOP BEING STRONG |

You may have looked twice at the title because, what’s wrong with being strong? Most of my clients would describe themselves this way and others see them that way, too.

However, being strong is yet another symptom of growing up in a dysfunctional home. When honest emotions or making mistakes are viewed as punishable weaknesses, you decide you better man (or woman) up to survive.

Children aren’t supposed to be strong. Dependent on the adults around them, they play and explore their world without fear because mom and dad have their back.

Oh, wait, that doesn’t sound like your childhood? You mean your parents not only didn’t have your back but were the source of the threat?

ℹ️🌿 HELPING YOUR INNER CHILD IN TIMES OF CHANGE |

In the modern world, there are so many stressors and hardships that it’s difficult to navigate our way forward, and often we have to make compromises that we don’t want to make. But is our time unique in this?

If we look back throughout the history of humankind, we’ll see the same things: stressors and hardships, that forced people to negotiate, compromise and sacrifice things. Things that changed people’s plans. Because of those things, people had to rethink and redo their plans, and also readjust their feelings to the changed reality. For them, a new reality was born, their own personal reality, within which they would have to live and feel, and call it their life.

We’re still doing that, and people who come after us will do the same. Circumstances may change, but human struggles stay the same. When we experience change, especially if the change is sudden and drastic, we lack the experience on which to base our response. We might feel like children who’ve skipped a few days of school, and it’s hard to catch up with the rest of the class.

ℹ️🌿 HOW TO KICK YOUR INNER CRITIC TO THE CURB |

You may be surprised to learn your inner critic is often the internalized voice of your parents and caregivers.

If you had critical, unloving, or inattentive parents, you would find fault with yourself, too. Since you relied on your parents for survival, it felt too risky to blame them. You had to blame yourself instead.

You grew up telling yourself that if you could only be quiet enough, perfect enough, funny enough, or pleasing enough, you'd win them over.

Your inner critic deduced that your deficits made you unlovable. Not that your parents were wrong for not loving you enough.

ℹ️🌿 HOW MUCH WORKPLACE POSITIVITY IS TOO MUCH? |

Authentic leadership styles can boost job performance, aid in navigating difficult situations, lift employee spirits, and boost productivity. Positivity can be a great attitude to have in workplace settings, but can there be too much of it?

The term ‘toxic positivity’ refers to maintaining an optimistic mindset without acknowledging the individual’s situation. It can negatively impact mental health and breed feelings of guilt when we start experiencing negative emotions. This can result in discrediting one’s own pain and hiding emotions from loved ones.

…in the work environment, the way people speak to each other, approach work problems, and interact with co-workers are different when an overly positive mindset is enforced. In such settings, the workplace needs to be upbeat and ignore any negative sentiments.

ℹ️🌿 WHY IT'S DIFFICULT FOR TRAUMA SURVIVORS TO FEEL GOOD |

People pleasing, hustling, never stopping to question what we want, what feels good for us, what is in alignment for us may have helped us receive love, attention, or even helped us survive systems from our families of origin to certain work environments.

Healing means we become willing to release those formerly helpful patterns that are now keeping us stuck, stressed out and in overwhelm. . . and ultimately keeping us in mis-aligned relationships and in an inauthentic life.
