On Saturday morning we celebrated the 70th anniversary of our Pine Bend refinery in Rosemount, MN with an Open House for the community. And you all showed up in a big way! Nearly 2,000 guests learned about our plant history, visited with refinery leadership, took a tour of our operations, saw large pieces of construction equipment up close, learned about fire safety and first aid and so much more. Thank you to all who took the time to attend this fun event.

The set up has begun for tomorrow’s Community Open House at our Pine Bend refinery celebrating our 70th anniversary. Join us to learn about our operations, see some of the large pieces of construction equipment we use every day, talk with our fire department, explore our virtual reality training systems and so much more. We’ll also have food trucks and refreshments for you to enjoy.

Last week Flint Hills Resources Pine Bend refinery had the honor of hosting 130 of our retirees for breakfast and a tour of the facility to honor the 70th Anniversary of the Pine Bend refinery. Some of our guests hadn't been inside the plant for 20 years and commented on just how much it has evolved.

A few fun facts:
*There were nearly 3,700 years of service (just the retirees) at this event
*On average, each retiree (present at this event) worked at Pine Bend for almost 30 years
*One retiree who attended the breakfast started in 1956 (just one year after the refinery opened)
*Four retirees worked here for 44 years
*And one current employee attended who started in 1968!

Needless to say, our employees have contributed in countless ways to the success and legacy of the Pine Bend refinery.

On Friday we hosted Take Your Child to Work Day at Flint Hills Resources Pine Bend refinery. To say all of the kids learned a lot and had fun is an understatement. There are many careers here to fit every interest so it was fun seeing these young kids’ minds peak at every turn. Maybe we even had some future employees at this year’s event.

We've long had a partnership with Friends of the Mississippi River at our Pine Bend refinery in Minnesota, but in the past couple of years, we've expanded that partnership to execute projects at our terminals. Last week we hosted our volunteer kick-off breakfast to talk about and plan for all of this summer's habitat restoration work that's going to take place on land near our Cottage Grove terminal. We're thrilled to have so many employees engaged and willing to help with these projects.

June is National Pollinator month and we’re excited to be supporting pollinator projects at many of our sites. We’re proud to be Gold Certified by the WHC at both our Flint Hills Resources Pine Bend refinery and at Flint Hills Resources Corpus Christi. Rosemount Fire Department is conducting training with controlled burns near our Pine Bend refinery. If neighbors are seeing smoke, rest assured, it is all under Rosemount Fire’s control.

This afternoon our Pine Bend refinery welcomed a few new additions to the refinery’s solar complex, well….actually over 500 new additions. In partnership with Friends of the Mississippi River and Minnesota Native Landscapes, herds of grazing sheep (and their baby lambs) will chart a course across over 300 acres of our solar complex, enthusiastically eating overgrown vegetation from around the solar panels, naturally promoting healthy growth of native and pollinator-friendly plants at the same time. The natural vegetation management solution builds on the site’s nationally recognized legacy for habitat management in our largest-of-its-kind solar complex!

We love to see that this program through Environmental Initiative keeps growing. Project CAR helps so many people keep their cars running safe and energy efficiently. Just another great partnership with the community.

We’re so excited to partner with Wayne's Automotive to bring Project Clean Air Repair (CAR) to greater Minnesota!

Through this initiative, qualified vehicle owners can receive free emissions repairs that reduce air pollution and save on fuel costs. Just 25% of cars cause 90% of vehicle air pollution in our state; Project CAR targets those high-emitting vehicles.
