Richard Conley, our volunteer for 30 years, sang the National Anthem at the Opening Ceremonies of the Special Olympics Summer Games on Friday at Maize High School. The 2025 Games were held June 6-8 in Wichita, with athletes competing in Track & Field, Bocce, Soccer, and Tennis. These events showcased the athleticism, determination, and sportsmanship of individuals with intellectual disabilities. The Lanterns of Life held its inaugural event on Memorial Day, May 26, at the serene Memory Garden in the Collective of East Wichita. 200 guests released 200 lanterns in the ponds in memory of their loved ones. Each lantern was lovingly decorated and personalized. It was a meaningful way to honor and celebrate a life of someone very special. Families enjoyed food trucks, vendors, live music, special appearances by Mayor Lily Wu and Admiral Windwagon Smith #51, art and activity stations, balloon art, all culminating to the big moment when the lanterns were launched. Many expressed gratitude for the opportunity to do something so fitting in memory of their loved one who is gone but never forgotten. Special thanks to your event sponsors Lumineo Signs, Heritage Funeral Home, Baxter & Associates, and Security 1st Title.
