Former MSSC President Maurice Duggins, MD, spoke with the Wichita Business Journal about his decision to become a chief medical officer for Ascension Via Christi while grieving the loss of his daughter Kiah, who died in the American Airlines plane collision in January. Kiah, a civil rights attorney and community advocate, had encouraged him to pursue the position. “It was the fact that I knew that she was so supportive of me, why it was so easy for me to say, ‘Yes, I am still interested in taking this position, taking this challenge on.’” Dr. Duggins said. “Grief can be paralyzing. I could not allow it to do that to me, personally."

Congratulations Dr. Duggins!
