Eunice has always had a heart for cats. For years, her home was never without the warmth of a feline companion curled up nearby. When she moved into an adult care home, she had to let go of that daily comfort, but her love for animals never left her.

On August 7th, that love came full circle. With the generosity of Noah and Julia at Snick’s Cat Cafe, Eunice spent the afternoon surrounded once more by the animals that bring her the greatest joy. There were soft purrs, gentle cuddles, laughter, and the kind of happiness that words can’t quite capture.

Her daughter, Edie, describes her as “one of the best humans I’ve ever known.” To many others, Eunice is remembered as an active Red Hat Lady who filled her days with friendship, fun, and kindness.

This is the very heart of hospice care. It is not just about adding days to life, but about filling life with moments that matter. Moments like this, holding a cat again, smiling until your cheeks ache, and knowing you are surrounded by love, become treasured memories for patients and families to carry forever.

We are deeply grateful to Snick’s Cat Cafe for helping make this wish a reality and giving Eunice a day that will never be forgotten.

Floral Fun on Spirit Week!

With last week being Customer Appreciation Week, we had a blast celebrating with themed Spirit Days!

On Thursday, May 22nd, we brought the garden to Gentiva Hospice for Floral Day, and our amazing Hospice Aide, Janet, absolutely bloomed with spirit!

We Made Waves for Customer Appreciation Week!

Our team dove into Customer Appreciation Week with a splash, kicking things off on Monday, 5/19, with a beach-themed bash that brought sunshine and good vibes! It was just the beginning of a week full of fun, gratitude, and celebration.

Throughout the week, we made it our mission to share a heartfelt “thank you” with those we have the honor of serving while proudly shining a spotlight on our Care Commitments every step of the way.

Our Care Commitments are:

On Friday, May 16th, we had the honor of making a wish come true for our patient, Sgt. Major Richard Metts, during Military Night at Equity Bank Stadium. As a proud Army Veteran and former college baseball player, Richard was chosen to throw the first pitch at the Wichita WindSurge game.

Richard’s journey is one of courage and commitment. After earning a baseball scholarship to the University of North Carolina, he chose to serve his country, enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1983. “Give me something hard to do,” he said, and he meant it. He became an Army Ranger, serving across the globe for over 26 years, including tours in Lebanon, Iraq, Afghanistan, the Gulf War, and Operation Desert Storm.

This night was about more than baseball. It was about honoring a life of service, sacrifice, and strength.

Thank you to Equity Bank Stadium, Medicalodges of Goddard, and our team for making this incredible evening possible. And most of all, thank you, Sgt. Major Metts, for your service.

Hospice is about living fully and creating meaningful moments, and this was certainly one of them.

Gentiva Hospice is committed to providing exceptional care to our patients. In February, we maintained a record of zero live discharges. On average, our patients received 2.83 nursing visits per week, with no patient going more than 7 days without a nursing visit. Additionally, all patients received at least 2 skilled visits in their final 3 days of life. Our average visit times were as follows: Aide: 48 minutes, Nursing: 52 minutes, Chaplain: 46 minutes, and Social Work: 40 minutes.

Happy Social Work Month! This month, we celebrate our wonderful Social Worker and Volunteer Coordinator, Hannah Myers! Hannah has been married to her husband for 10 years, and they have two children together. She has been part of our Gentiva family for over a year. Outside of work, Hannah enjoys decorating cakes, spending time with her family, and playing with her beloved pets, including her rabbit, Gandolf.
