5⃣ Ways to Lower Your Fall Risk This Fall 🍁🎃
1. Strengthen Your Muscles 💪🏼
I like to think of your legs and core as your roots—without them, your tree (body) can topple. Simple moves like squats, heel raises, or core exercises can keep you steady and strong.
2. Challenge Your Balance
When I work with patients, I often start with small challenges like standing on one leg near a counter. At first it may feel wobbly, but don’t “fall to pieces”—that’s your body learning how to catch itself.
3. Check Your Home Environment🏠
I always remind people: loose rugs, cords, and poor lighting are fall traps waiting to happen. A quick “fall cleaning” of your home can be one of the easiest prevention steps you’ll ever take.
4. Wear Supportive Footwear 👟
This one’s simple but often overlooked. I’ve seen many near-misses from slippers and slick socks. Choose shoes with grip and support—you’ll thank yourself later.
5. Don’t Skip Vision & Health Checks 👓
Your balance is a team effort between your eyes, ears, muscles, and brain. Whenever a patient struggles unexpectedly, I encourage them to check vision, medication side effects, or inner ear issues. These are sneaky but important factors.
