Capt. Shane Davis of the McConnell Air Force Base Fire Department is an artist! This is why we love Passion Projects at Starkey - our friends and supporters end up enriching the lives of individuals here in unexpected ways. We loved this hands-on experience - spreading paint by hand on a canvas for the background, creating tree leaves with fingerprints. Thank you for teaching us, Capt. Davis! 🎨

One of Mickey's favorite activities is going out to a restaurant to eat. Starkey ensures that all of its homes and apartments have the right vehicles to make these activities - as well as getting to and from medical appointments, jobs, day programs, volunteer duties and places of worship - both accessible and possible.

But Starkey's fleet of 110 vehicles is aging, and it does not receive any funding for its transportation program beyond modest monthly private fees. Can you help with a donation to this year's Annual Campaign, focused on transportation needs and the purchase of new wheelchair-accessible vehicles?

Thank you, veterans, for your service. In the past, we have welcomed Honor Flights after their arrival in Wichita and delivered cookies to our neighboring VFW posts. We will continue to express our appreciation in all the ways we can! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

These men will be busy for the next few weeks! They are earning money for cleaning up leaves on the main campus and at the Dill Center, and those leaves are falling as fast as they can rake them. πŸ‚πŸ

How do horses help teach emotional regulation?

πŸ”΅ Horses don't judge. They simply respond to what they sense, creating a safe environment to explore emotions.
πŸ”΅ Interacting with a large animal encourages emotional awareness, patience and self-control.
πŸ”΅ For individuals who have difficulty trusting people, connecting with a horse can be a bridge to trusting others.
πŸ”΅ Horses are sensitive to human emotions and often react to anxiety or fear. This mirroring effect helps an individual recognize and adjust their own emotional state.

The individuals in our Gateway Program love their time at Freedom Hooves Therapeutic Riding Center and get great lasting benefits from riding and grooming the horses there!

Our Life Enrichment group gained some valuable expertise this week at PRo Kansas Miller Recycling Center. Did you know:
♻️ 56% of recycled water, juice, soda and sport drink bottles are used to manufacture fiber products like carpet and clothing.
♻️ 14% of recycled drink bottles are transformed into new containers, including water bottles.
♻️ 29% of recycled milk and laundry detergent bottles are made into new bottles and 18% are used in the production of plastic pipe.
♻️ 70% of all corrugated cardboard is recovered for recycling, making it the largest sources of recycled waste paper.
♻️ Over 50% of aluminum cans are recycled with a rapid closed-loop process. A used aluminum can may be recycled and back on the shelf in as little as 60 days.

We appreciate this important local recycling leader! 🌏

Who was named EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR at Carlos O'Kelly's restaurant? None other than our very own Conner Jackson! πŸŽ‰ Our Supported Employment team is very proud - but Conner earned this by himself with his outstanding work ethic, great customer service and reliability. Congratulations, Conner, this is well deserved!

In less than a month, will be here! 🩡 This event kicks off our annual campaign to raise funds for an accessible vehicle. 🚌 Transportation is a vital service that Starkey provides! Your gift can help Landon make it possible for Gary to keep volunteering to deliver Meals on Wheels (and participate in many other activities.)

There are so many ways to help Starkey:
