Philip R. Thompson, of Lovelaceville, Kentucky, passed away from this life on Saturday, August 30, 2025. Now, he is healthy and joyfully with his Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ.

Born in Peoria, Illinois, on October 14, 1950, to Leonard and Norma Jean Thompson, Philip (“with one ‘l,’ like in the Bible”) made his way back to the Promised Land of Kentucky before he was three months old.

Philip was a true follower of Jesus Christ and believed with all his heart that it was vitally important to have a quiet time with the Lord every day, reading the Word and praying. His faith made him attentive to the needs of others, serving his church and community in many roles over the years. Philip had a far-reaching generosity, and he was a greeter at Bethlehem Baptist in Cunningham because he wanted everyone to feel welcome when they came to church. He will be greatly missed at the door on Sundays!

An excellent storyteller, he may have exaggerated a tale or two, but it was for laughs, and he got plenty as a result. Philip was always ready with a one-liner or zinger to highlight his dry sense of humor. He had many interests and enjoyed playing golf with his buddies and reading — both limited activities due to illnesses later in his life. He played poker weekly with his “girls” (men he’d attended high school with), and he was an avid trivia player, who often carried his team to victory. He ended his trivia career leading his team to a perfect-score victory last Thursday night! Philip loved Julia’s cooking (hated her driving…) and ended every meal by telling her how good it was. He had loved her since she was 15 years old and was never shy about how much he loved her and her family.

Philip was a proud graduate of Heath High School, then entered the U.S. Navy, serving in Vietnam as a Brown Water Navy sailor — one of fewer than 2,500 who served that role in country. Afterward, he proudly worked for the family business, Lovelaceville Feed Mill, for many years, then became a longtime USEC employee and retired from the plant. Philip was also a farmer who raised to***co, cows, and hogs. His work ethic was legendary, and he never wanted anyone to outwork him — and few, if any, did.

Philip is survived by his wife of 52 years, Julia Gholson Thompson of Lovelaceville; his sons, Andy (Rachel) and Luke (Amanda) both of Lovelaceville; his grandchildren, Anna Thompson of Louisville, Addie Carter of Lovelaceville, and Heath Corley of Lovelaceville; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who were very special to Phil, and he was much loved by them.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Leonard and Norma Jean Thompson; his sister, Weda Thompson; his brother, David Thompson; and his father- and mother-in-law, Ferd and Sue Gholson, respectively.

Services will be held at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Cunningham on Saturday, September 6, 2025, with visitation at 10 a.m. and the service to follow at noon.

The family requests that in-memoriam donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P. O. Box 758540, Topeka, KS, 66675-8540 or Bethlehem Baptist Church, P.O. Box 468, Cunningham, KY, 42035.

He had the fortune of celebrating 85 full years before passing on Sunday, August 31, 2025, in the comfort of his home in West Paducah, where he had lived, worked, and loved for many years.

As a savvy businessman and a friend to the community, Cliff made a name for himself as the owner of West Paducah Glass since 1972. A fan of the University of Kentucky basketball team, he relished the thrill of the game and the unity it brought with every moment. His passion for classic cars was unmistakable, particularly his love for Ford Thunderbird classics, a love which he could discuss at length and with enthusiasm. His annual trips to the Pigeon Forge Truck Show were not merely routine, but something to let him connect with other enthusiasts.

Strong yet humble, always ready to extend a helping hand, he embodied the qualities of the icon he admired.

A devoted husband and amazing father, James's dedication and support knew no bounds. 24 years ago, he met the love of his life, to whom he has been happily married for 19 memorable years. They were each other's best friend, confidant, and the love of each other's lives, a testament to what true partnership and commitment can be. As a father, he was always present and deeply involved in the lives of his children. His belief in the power of education shaped his approach to parenting, and he worked hard to make life easier and filled with opportunities for his kids. While he took great pride in being a father, nothing compared to the joy he found in being a grandfather. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he loved them more than anything in the world. His face would light up with the purest joy at the sound of their laughter.

Jim Wright, of Arlington, Kentucky, passed away suddenly on August 25, 2025. He was born on Wolf Island in Hickman County, Kentucky, to George and Louise Wright on May 26, 1942.

Jim owned and operated the Truck Stop and Citgo Convenience Store in Arlington for many years, becoming a prominent figure in the community. His work ethic was matched only by his expertise with heavy equipment, as well as his skills in repairing towboats and farming.

His laughter was infectious, and he cherished the company of his friends, with whom he shared countless good jokes and stories. No morning was complete without his presence at Carol's Restaurant, where he was a “round table” staple. After breakfast, you could find him cruising around town, simply enjoying life, watching westerns, or spending time in his shop “tinkering”. Anyone who stopped by could find him "supervising" projects, always ready to offer a wisecrack.

Jim loved his dog, Sadie, and would often joke that he loved Sadie more than anything. However, anyone who knew Jim knew that it was his granddaughter, Charlize, who held the most special place in his heart. His love for her was endless, and he was known to boast about her achievements and the joy she brought into his life.

As we say goodbye to the incomparable Jim Wright, we are grateful for the time we spent with him, the lessons he taught us, and the laughter he brought into our lives.

Jim is survived by his sons, Jimmy Wright, of Arlington, and Timmy Terry, of Arlington; his beloved granddaughter, Charlize Wright; as well as many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

He is preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Wright Davis; two brothers, Lee Wright and George Wright; and his parents.

Harris Engineering is not only where Donnie retired, but also where he met his wife, Paula.

Upon his retirement, Donnie’s faith as a Christian was evident in his actions. He became widely known in his community for his willingness to help others. His laughter was contagious, and his kindness knew no bounds; he was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back without a second thought.

Donnie's love for the great outdoors could only be matched by the love he had for his wife, with whom he shared countless unforgettable days fishing and camping. Shirley Pool Williams, lovingly known as “Granny Shirley”, of Barlow, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Life Care Center of La Center. Granny Shirley was born on February 3, 1937, to Henry and Esther Hargrove Pool.

There are not enough bourbon barrels in Kentucky, a bathtub big enough to hold the tears, or dynamite strong enough to compare to Granny Shirley. She was so loved and had a spirit and sass like none other. God really did break the mold when he made her. At 5 feet tall and less through the years, she was something unmatched, and she would tell you about it too!

Granny Shirley worked hard throughout her life at multiple occupations because she enjoyed so many different things in life. She’s built bridges, carpentry, made shoes, lamps, guns, and even stole a porta-potty or two off the Cairo bridge. She loved music and dancing, traveling the world, and always had the best time doing it all. Granny Shirley was smart as a tack and strong as a mule, and she didn’t mind telling you how she felt, even if it ruffled feathers.

Granny Shirley is survived by her three daughters, Lucretia (David) Reno, of Wickliffe, Tonya Seaborne, of Wickliffe, and Lacy Jean, of Paducah; one son, Erik Williams, of Wickliffe; three sisters, Sue Forgey, of Hazel, Kentucky, Fanetta (Tim) Puckett, of Cunningham, and Aloah (Ralph) Viets, of Springfield, Illinois; three grandchildren, Kelly (Brandon) Lassiter, of Benton, Leslie (Jared) Crawford, of Wickliffe, and Alicyn (Logan) Seaborn, of Paducah; four great-grandchildren, Kalyn Lassiter, Brady Lassiter, Tessa Crawford, and Larrah Kate Crawford; one great-great grandchild, Aria Williams; and she is loved by several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her brothers, Bobby and Henry Edward “Bubba” Pool, and her parents.

Visitation will be held at Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Wickliffe, on Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. until the service time of 2:00 p.m. Dee Hazelwood will officiate. Burial will follow at Wickliffe City Cemetery.
