I hope this post reaches people who need to hear it or who know others who might need to hear it. π
As a mental health professional, a sister, a wife, a mom - I genuinely like helping people.
But in an industry where patients outnumber practitioners 340 to 1, it is hard not to fall into the trap of desensitization - the tendency to treat patients not as people, but as cases.
It wasnβt the kind of practitioner I wanted to be.
So last year, I decided to start my own clinic - MindWell Mental Health Services - intent on maintaining that sincere desire to help others, that personalized approach, that human-to-human connection, that warmth, that dimension.
Now, I have a team who share the same belief and goal: that every patient should leave us with more than a prescription or treatment instructions, but the encouragement in knowing that there are people who truly care for their wellbeing.
6 out of 10 providers can no longer accept new patients.
π We do.
Of those who do, patients need to wait for available slots.
π Our patients donβt have to.
Not all providers accept insurances.
π We accept as many as we can.
