Fifty-six years ago this week, Pope Paul VI released an encyclical that shocked the world. Not because it said something new, but because it not only refused to conform, but openly rejected the spirit of the age.

Change was sweeping across the world in the form of the s*xual revolution, enabled by the birth control pill and accompanying loud demands to modernize everything, including the Church’s age-old teachings on s*x and marriage. When the Pope released Humanae Vitae, many expected the new encyclical to go along with the times.

Instead, the Pope gave the world a challenge—but also a gift.

I cannot tolerate criticism and speaking ill of our neighbor. It is true, sometimes I enjoy teasing them, but speaking ill of them makes me sick. We have so many defects in ourselves to criticize, why pick on our neighbor? And lacking in charity we damage the roots of the tree of life, with the risk of killing it.

A Swiss politician, Sanija Ameti, who self-identifies as a "Muslim-born atheist," has been arrested for allegedly firing 20 shots at an image of Christ and His Mother, the Virgin Mary.

This was not a random act. It was a direct assault on the sacred. There is a spiritual sickness spreading across our world; hatred masked as tolerance, and violence disguised as progress.

Those who claim to be inclusive often show the deepest hostility toward the Christian faith.

Pray for our world.
Proclaim the Gospel boldly.
If she truly believed the image meant nothing, there would have been no reason for such an extreme and targeted act.

The world still recognizes the power of Christ and His Mother—and that is why it lashes out.

Lord God, Heavenly Father, we pray to you for an abundance of grace through the intercession of Mother Angelica to accomplish your will for the Padre Pio Home for the Relief of Suffering and the Padre Pio School of Osteopathic Medicine in Howell, Michigan.

In her life, Mother Angelica worked tirelessly to accomplish your will to spread the Truth of your Eternal Word found in the Scriptures and in the Sacred Tradition of the Church.

Where there was doubt and equivocation in teaching the True Faith, she brought clarity and certainty.
Where there was timidity to confront attacks of the Faith, she brought courage and a sure defense.
Where there was lukewarmness in living the Faith, she was bold and countercultural in proclaiming Jesus Christ as the Way, the Truth and the Life.

She did it all for the glory of God.

She was not afraid to do the ridiculous so that God could do the miraculous.

With that same zeal, O Lord, we strive to overcome the evils of our age in the delivery of healthcare. Satan has declared war on the sanctity of life and a Culture of Death has taken hold. He has seduced many to doubt or lose the True Faith, to accommodate themselves to the values of the world, and to fail in their defense of the Teachings of Holy Mother Church.

With your grace, O Lord, all things are possible. We patiently trust in your divine providence - which at times may appear slow - but, certain that all will be accomplished in your time.

Inspired by the example of Mother Angelica and trusting in her intercession for us, we continue with the certainty of faith that our prayer will not go unheard and your work will not 𝐉𝐨𝐢𝐧 𝐮𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐚!
