📚🤍 Helping Children Hold On to Love After Loss

In this reel, Katlyn shares a meaningful children’s book about grief: “The Memory Box.”

One of the hardest parts of loss — especially for children — is understanding how someone can be gone… but still feel so present in our hearts.

The Memory Box gently explores:
• How we remember our person
• Ways to keep their stories alive
• Creating tangible connections through memories
• Making space for both sadness and love

For parents, books like this can open conversations that feel overwhelming to start on your own.

Grief doesn’t mean forgetting.
It means learning how to carry love differently.

✨ If you’re supporting a child through loss, this can be a beautiful place to begin. Save this post for later, share it with another parent, and visit RBMH.com to learn more about grief support for children and families.

🌱 Social-Emotional Learning Group for Kids

We’re excited to offer a 12-week Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) group designed to help children build confidence, emotional awareness, and stronger social skills in a supportive environment.

This group may be a great fit for children who:
• Are ages 8–11
• Experience ADHD or emotional regulation challenges
• Struggle with anxiety in social situations
• Enjoy learning through creative play and activities

During the program, kids will work toward:
✔ Weekly goals and psychoeducational lessons
✔ Practicing new skills through creative activities and games

✔ Parent engagement to support progress at home

Helping children understand their emotions and build healthy social connections can make a lasting difference in their confidence and well-being.

Compassion is a practice —
and you deserve your own.

You offer it to your children.
To your partner.
To your friends.
To the strangers who are struggling.

But when it comes to you?
The tone shifts.

Healing often begins not with fixing yourself —
but with softening toward yourself.

Compassion isn’t indulgent.
It’s regulated.
It’s intentional.
It’s strength without self-punishment.

Today, speak to yourself the way you would to someone you love.

That counts as healing, too. 🕊️

🤍 Grief isn’t something you “get over.” It’s something you learn to carry.

In this reel, Katlyn shares about her work as a Certified Advanced Grief Counseling Specialist and how she supports individuals navigating loss.

Grief can look like:
• Sadness
• Anger
• Numbness
• Guilt
• Relief
• Or all of it at once

There is no “right” timeline.
No perfect way to mourn.
No checklist for healing.

Whether you’re grieving the loss of a loved one, a relationship, a life transition, or a version of life you thought you’d have — you don’t have to hold it alone.

Support can help you process, make meaning, and move forward without leaving your love behind.

🤍 What does trauma-informed care really mean at Red Bird?

It means we don’t ask, “What’s wrong with you?”
We ask, “What happened to you?”

It means we understand that behaviors have context.
That coping strategies once served a purpose.
That survival leaves imprints on the nervous system.

At Red Bird, trauma-informed care means:

• Creating emotional and physical safety
• Moving at your pace
• Honoring your story without judgment
• Understanding how trauma impacts the brain and body
• Building skills for regulation — not just symptom reduction

It’s not just a buzzword here.
It’s the foundation of how we practice, how we train, and how we show up.

Healing doesn’t require reliving everything at once.
It requires safety, attunement, and expertise.

Survival was your strength.
Healing is your power.

You did what you had to do.
You adapted.
You endured.
You made it through.

That strength deserves to be honored.

And now — if you’re in a place where safety allows it — healing becomes something even deeper.

Not just surviving the storm…
but learning you don’t have to live in it anymore.

Survival kept you alive.
Healing helps you feel alive.

Both matter. Both are powerful. 🕊️

🌊 Scroll Break

Pause for a moment.

Unclench your jaw.
Drop your shoulders.
Take one slow breath in…
and a longer one out.

Your nervous system wasn’t designed for constant noise, urgency, and comparison.

Sometimes healing looks like therapy.
Sometimes it looks like 10 seconds of stillness in the middle of your day.

Let this be your reminder:
You are allowed to pause.

No productivity required.
No fixing necessary.
Just breathe. 🤍

✨ Save this for later when your body needs a reset.

📚 Resource Spotlight for Parents

In this video, Katlyn shares a children’s book she loves: “We’re Different and It’s Totally Cool.”🌈 ~ By Camey Yeh

It’s a simple, colorful reminder that differences aren’t something to hide — they’re something to understand, respect, and celebrate.

For children, stories like this can:
• Open conversations about diversity
• Normalize uniqueness
• Build empathy early
• Strengthen confidence in who they are

Books can be powerful tools in helping kids make sense of the world — and themselves.

If you’re looking for ways to gently introduce conversations about inclusion and individuality at home, this may be a great place to start. 💛

✨ Save this post for later, share it with another parent, and let us know in the comments — what’s your child’s favorite book right now?

Healing isn’t always loud.
It isn’t always breakthroughs and big, brave steps forward.

Some days healing looks like movement.
Some days it looks like staying.

Like pausing.
Like breathing.
Like choosing not to run from the discomfort.

And that still counts.

If today feels quiet or heavy, you’re not behind. You’re healing in the way your nervous system needs.

One steady choice at a time. 🕊️

🎖️ “Veterans carry more than just memories — they carry weight.”

In this reel, Rob, one of our trauma therapists, speaks from both clinical insight and personal connection. With grandparents who served, he’s witnessed firsthand the silent burdens veterans often hold long after their service ends.

At Red Bird, we understand that trauma doesn't always show up in ways others can see — but it still takes up space in your body, your relationships, your sleep, your life.

💬 Through evidence-based therapy like EMDR, somatic work, and trauma-informed approaches, healing is possible. You don’t have to carry it alone.

🧠 If you’re a veteran — or someone who loves one — therapy at Red Bird can help you release what’s weighing you down.

That pressure you feel to be further along? To have “healed already”? To be over it, past it, done with it? 💭

That pressure isn’t truth — it’s noise.

Healing doesn’t come with a stopwatch. It doesn’t move in straight lines. Sometimes it’s loud and cathartic, other times it’s quiet and unseen — small shifts deep beneath the surface. 🌱

What feels like delay might actually be protection. What seems like going backward might be your body finally feeling safe enough to rest.

You are not behind.
You are not broken.
You are exactly where your healing needs you to be. 🧠❤️

Be gentle with yourself today. You're doing the work — even if no one else can see it.
