Every day, Family Service Association of NEPA strives to fulfill its mission when working with the community and serving its clients. Central to our mission are our commitments to accountability, compassion, patience, professionalism, and the highest standards of ethical behavior.
A key facet of FSA’s services and the fulfillment of our mission is our Guardianship program. Within this program, FSA’s dedicated staff are appointed Guardians of individuals of any age, who for a variety of reasons, require significant oversight and support in their daily lives and personal affairs, including but not limited to management of decisions related financial and medical issues. This program is overseen by FSA’s internal management, as well as the local and state court systems. In some instances, Guardianship clients come to FSA as the result of financial exploitation, caregiver neglect, or other forms of physical or emotional abuse. In these cases, the Guardians not only take actions to address the financial and medical challenges faced by their clients but also act to protect their clients from individuals who the Guardians view as acting contrary to the best interests of the client.
In fulfilling their responsibilities, our Guardians sometimes regrettably find themselves at odds with the family members of a client. This only occurs where the Guardian determines that disagreement with a client’s family is necessary to protect the client’s best interests. While FSA seeks to reconcile any such conflicts with patience and compassion wherever possible, FSA will not stand for false and defamatory statements about its staff, services and commitment to its mission, as has occurred most recently. FSA understands that individuals have been making considerable efforts to defame and disparage a valued member of our organization and our organization as a whole. Not only are the statements about our staff and organization patently false, but they represent concerning and unacceptable behavior by the individuals who are making these statements. As an organization, FSA stands with its dedicated staff in all respects, and denounces such defamatory statements as false, misleading, malicious, and abusive.
