Charles S. Slavish Jr.
June 22, 2023

Our son, brother and uncle, Chuckie, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, June 22, 2023. Born March 10, 1963, he was the son of Charles and the late Anne Slavish. Chuckie enjoyed spending a good deal of his youth at his grandparents’ house in Luzerne, PA. After growing up and living in Wilkes-Barre for almost 55 years, he moved back to Luzerne where he felt most at home.

Chuck was a graduate of G.A.R. Memorial High School and attended Penn State University. He had a passion for reading and learning and did so his entire life. In 2017, he graduated with his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Wilkes University. He was very proud of this accomplishment, and it was there that he met some of his greatest friends and colleagues who eventually became family.

Chuck was a veteran of the United States Air Force. His service took him to Texas, Monterey, California, the state of Washington and Greece. He yearned to travel and had plans to visit many more places before going to heaven. He was also an avid bowler and another of his proud accomplishments was having achieved a perfect 300 game.

He had many hobbies through the years, including stamp and coin collecting, fishing, horticulture, painting and photography. Many of us have his beautiful, framed photos in our homes. His most recent passion was his pet fish and aquatic frogs, which he tended to with great care.

Chuck was an eccentric guy who lived, loved, and played hard, and with all of his heart and emotions. He loved every animal he saw; he’s the guy that stopped people on the street, in a parking lot, at the casino, or just about anywhere, to talk about and pet all the dogs. He loved seeing and playing with his “fur-nieces” Maisey and Maddie.

He is survived by his father, Charles Slavish; sister, Cheri McGrane and her husband, Mark; sister, C.J. Potsko and her husband, Tom; his niece, Morgan McGrane and nephew, Hunter McGrane. He is also survived by many cousins and friends who were like brothers and sisters to him. Thank you to all who loved him and stood by him for these 60 years.

He was known for writing so eloquently, the ultimate proofreader; so, we sure hope we did him justice. He will be missed tremendously all of the remaining days of our lives.

Our family would like to extend our most heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the physicians and staff at the VA Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre who provided support and care for him for many years as well as the physicians and staff at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.
“May the God of all the Heaven and Earth Bless them all.”

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 am from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with Divine Liturgy to follow at 11 am in St. Anthony/St. George Maronite Catholic Church, 311 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4-7 pm on Monday at the funeral home. A vigil service will be held at 6:30 pm. Rev. Adib Salameh will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony & St. George Maronite Church, 323 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, PA, 18702, the Osterhout Free Library or any library in the Luzerne County Library System, or the SPCA of Luzerne County, 524 E. Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA, 18702.
