Today, we celebrate Dr. Susan Sordoni, the recipient of the 2025 Luzerne Foundation Volunteer Community Champion Award!
Dr. Sordoni has devoted the majority of her medical career to providing quality, compassionate care to individuals who cannot afford or do not have access to health insurance or medical care. Her dedicated leadership has transformed Volunteers in Medicine (VIM) from a clinic with one volunteer physician into an organization with a core group of 150 volunteers who generously offer their time and expertise to patients daily.
The Volunteers in Medicine clinic opened its doors to the community in June 2008. The dental clinic followed in January 2011 and quickly became a vital community resource. In 2015, the clinic expanded its services to include behavioral health. Today, VIM offers a comprehensive range of specialty services, medications, and testing to provide holistic, patient-centered care.
Volunteers in Medicine is a full-service medical, dental, and behavioral health clinic in Wilkes-Barre, offering free services. The clinic provides primary and preventative health care to working, uninsured individuals in Luzerne County who otherwise have no access to public or private health insurance.
The dedication and compassion of Dr. Sordoni and the entire VIM team have made a profound impact on the community, ensuring that quality healthcare is accessible to those in need. Their unwavering commitment to serving the underserved is truly inspiring.
