At the Nesbitt School of Pharmacy, every faculty member has a unique story, and we’re excited to share them with you!

This week, meet 𝐃𝐫. 𝐊𝐢𝐦𝐦𝐲 𝐍𝐠𝐮𝐲𝐞𝐧, 𝐏𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐃, 𝐁𝐂𝐀𝐂𝐏, 𝐁𝐂-𝐀𝐃𝐌, 𝐓𝐓𝐒, Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice. Dr. Nguyen earned her PharmD from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and completed her PGY1 residency at the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center in Philadelphia, followed by a PGY2 in Ambulatory Care at the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System in Wappingers Falls, NY.

She joined the Nesbitt School of Pharmacy in 2018 and primarily teaches therapeutics of pulmonary disorders along with the ambulatory care and motivational interviewing series in Care Lab. Her clinical practice is at Volunteers in Medicine in Wilkes-Barre, PA, a free clinic that serves people without insurance. She combines evidence-based medicine with patient-centered care while addressing language and health literacy barriers.

🎃 Fun fact: Outside of teaching and clinical practice, she enjoys crafting, hiking, running, gaming, and all things Halloween!

During 𝐀𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡💊✨ we’re proud to spotlight Wilkes University Nesbitt School of Pharmacy alumnus Dr. Mike Brundage, part of our very first graduating class! After gaining his start at a local independent pharmacy in Honesdale as a student, he came full circle to build a thriving independent community pharmacy right where his journey began.

Recently featured in a Drug Topics article, Dr. Brundage shared the importance of relationships, trust, and showing up for the community you serve.

From fostering trust to serving three counties, Dr. Brundage embodies the heart of community-centered pharmacy care. Join us in celebrating his dedication and the vital role pharmacists play every day! 💛💙✨

As we continue celebrating American Pharmacists Month, we are thrilled to recognize LT Nicholas Stauffer, PharmD, BCPS and class of 2017, who has been selected as the U.S. Coast Guard Pharmacist of the Year! This prestigious honor reflects his exceptional leadership, dedication to advancing pharmacy services, and commitment to supporting the health and readiness of service members. ⚓💊

Dr. Stauffer credits his mentors and colleagues for their guidance and collaboration, noting the privilege of serving alongside such talented professionals.💙💛

Our P3 pharmacy students teamed up with nursing students this week for an interprofessional simulation focused on urgent patient assessment, medication recommendations, and SBAR communication! Students practiced critical thinking under pressure, delegated tasks appropriately, and learned how communication style can impact care delivery.🩺🥼💫

What better way to celebrate Pharmacy Week than highlighting how pharmacists elevate patient care through medication expertise, teamwork, and interprofessional collaboration!💊✨

This week, meet 𝐃𝐫. 𝐒𝐜𝐨𝐭𝐭 𝐁𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐚, 𝐏𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐃, 𝐁𝐂𝐂𝐂𝐏, 𝐅𝐂𝐂𝐌, 𝐅𝐂𝐂𝐏, Professor of Pharmacy Practice. Born in Nanticoke, PA and a proud graduate of Wyoming Valley West, Dr. Bolesta earned his PharmD from Wilkes University before completing a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at the University of Arizona Medical Center in Tucson, AZ, and a PGY2 Critical Care Residency at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY.

Since joining the Wilkes faculty in 2005, Dr. Bolesta has taught Therapeutics of Cardiovascular and Renal Disorders, Infectious Diseases, and Clinical Research and Design. He also serves as the faculty advisor for the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) student chapter and maintains a clinical practice at Commonwealth Health’s Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

💬 His favorite part of teaching? “I enjoy guiding pharmacy students through their entire academic career, not just their final experiential year. I was drawn to critical care after shadowing two professors—when I saw how much respect they earned from physicians, I knew that’s what I wanted to do.”

🚴‍♂️ Fun fact: When he’s not in the classroom or hospital, you’ll likely find Dr. Bolesta cycling (and cycling some more!) or spending time with his family.

A 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐏𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 is a postgraduate training experience that helps pharmacists enhance their clinical, leadership, and patient care skills while shaping the future of pharmacy practice.

This week, meet 𝐃𝐫. 𝐊𝐢𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐅𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐏𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐃, Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Director of Pharmacy Care Labs. Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, Dr. Ference earned her PharmD from the NSoP and completed her PGY1 Primary Care Residency through Wilkes University in collaboration with the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center and Wyoming Valley Family Medicine. Before returning to Wilkes, she served as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Oklahoma in Tulsa, OK!

At Wilkes, Dr. Ference leads the Pharmacy Care Lab sequence and also teaches in Foundations. Outside of the classroom, she advises both the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association (PPA) student chapter and the Rho Chi Honor Society. Her favorite part of teaching? Helping student pharmacists grow into confident, compassionate professionals!

🧩 Fun fact: Dr. Ference enjoys cooking and baking, trying new restaurants, doing puzzles and playing games, traveling with family and friends, and cheering on her kids!

✨This summer, six Nesbitt School of Pharmacy students completed the Geisinger Enterprise Pharmacy Internship across three different locations!✨

Our interns gained invaluable hands-on experience and achieved so much, including:
💊 Medication Use Evaluation (MUE) research projects
📚 Journal club and patient case presentations
📋 Formulary drug reviews
🤝 Direct patient interactions & medication reconciliations
🏥 Rounding with interdisciplinary teams
🩸 Anticoagulation and antiplatelet counseling
🎓 Professional development and educational sessions, and so much more!

We are incredibly proud of our students and deeply grateful to Geisinger for providing this exceptional opportunity to help prepare our future pharmacists for success.

Congratulations to 𝐃𝐫. 𝐊𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐬, Director of Experiential Education, on receiving the 2025 PeopleGrove + CORE Rookie of the Year Award! 🏆🎉

Presented at the national CORE Summit in Providence, RI, this award honors those who exemplify creativity, collaboration, and measurable impact. Dr. Powers was recognized for her outstanding leadership and innovation in transitioning our experiential education program to the CORE ELMS platform!🙌💻✨

An extra Wilkes connection made this moment even more special as Jason Langdon, PeopleGrove + CORE’s Senior Vice President of Customer Success and a proud Wilkes University alumnus, presented the award!

𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐲 𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 💛💙✨

At the Nesbitt School of Pharmacy, every faculty member has a unique story, and we’re excited to share them with you!

This week, meet Dr. Kelly Sklanka, PharmD, CDCES, Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Residency Program Director of the Wilkes/Weis Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program. Born in Kingston, PA, Dr. Sklanka is a proud graduate of Wilkes University, Nesbitt School of Pharmacy. She joined the faculty full-time in 2023 after serving as an adjunct faculty member since 2019.

Dr. Sklanka practices with Geisinger Centralized Clinical Pharmacy Services in Wilkes-Barre, where she works closely with students during their experiential training. At Wilkes, she teaches the pharmacotherapeutics of gastrointestinal disorders, dyslipidemia, motivational interviewing, and cultural humility.

Her favorite part of teaching is the opportunity to work with every P3 student at her site and seeing them apply classroom learning to real patients while considering social and economic factors that impact care. She finds it rewarding to guide students in evidence-based decision making and values the fact that she learns something new from them every day, making her a better pharmacist in the process.

✈️ Fun facts: Outside of teaching and practice, Dr. Sklanka enjoys running, gardening (especially growing zinnias!), baking, traveling, and spending time with her husband and daughter, Skylar.
