Future Colonels got a firsthand look at what it means to be part of the Nesbitt School of Pharmacy this weekend! ๐Ÿฅผ๐Ÿ’Šโœจ

During Admitted Colonels Day, we loved welcoming our incoming students and their families and giving them a glimpse into life at NSoP. From connecting with faculty to chatting with current student pharmacists, the day was filled with meaningful conversations and a strong sense of community.

Attendees explored our wide range of student organizations, learned about the experiences that shape our program, and saw how we support students both inside and outside the classroom.

At the Nesbitt School of Pharmacy, every team member has a unique story, and weโ€™re excited to share them with you!

This week, meet ๐‰๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ข๐š ๐‰๐š๐œ๐ข๐ž๐ง, Experiential Program Coordinator at the Nesbitt School of Pharmacy. Julia earned her BS in Business and MBA in Human Resource Management from Misericordia University.

She joined Wilkes in January 2021 after serving as President Assistant and Secretary to the Board of Directors at Johnson College. In her role, she manages CORE scheduling, oversees site onboarding requirements for IPPEs and APPEs, and provides administrative support for experiential program operations. She also assists with data management for the SD-IPPE course and supports additional departmental functions.

Her favorite part of her work is helping students navigate onboarding requirements for rotations. She takes pride in simplifying processes, removing barriers, and ensuring students feel supported as they prepare for hands-on learning at their experiential sites.

๐ŸŒŸ Fun fact: Outside of work, Julia enjoys traveling, especially to Florida, with her husband, going to concerts (including at least five Beyoncรฉ shows!), spending time with her daughter who is studying architecture, and hanging out with their 110-lb mastiff.๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบ

As part of the S*F initiative, Wilkes student pharmacists spent time at Wilkes-Barre Volunteers in Medicine connecting with patients and promoting medication adherence. Through one-on-one conversations, they shared practical strategies to stay on track, explained how to request refills, and highlighted why adherence matters for long-term health.๐Ÿฅ๐Ÿฉบ๐Ÿ’•

Patients received free pill boxes and easy-to-understand handouts in both English and Spanish to support their care at home.

Weโ€™re excited to highlight ๐‘๐ฒ๐š๐ง ๐‡๐ข๐ง๐ž, a P1 student from Lewistown, PA. Ryan was inspired to pursue pharmacy by his desire to help others and make a meaningful difference through healthcare. Hearing stories about the profound impact healthcare professionals have on patients motivated him to explore the field, and a high school co-op experience helped confirm that pharmacy was the right choice. Through that experience, he enjoyed learning how medications work, what they are used for, and even compounding drugs while gaining insight into a pharmacistโ€™s day-to-day role.

The Geisinger Pharmacy Scholars Program is a unique partnership between Wilkes Universityโ€™s Nesbitt School of Pharmacy and Geisinger that helps reduce the cost of pharmacy education while preparing students for future careers. Scholars receive a $20,000 forgivable loan, mentorship from Geisinger pharmacists and Wilkes faculty, early experiential and employment opportunities, and a job offer with Geisinger upon graduation for those who meet program requirements.๐Ÿ’Š๐Ÿฅผโœจ

This week, meet ๐‰๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐ง ๐‚๐จ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐ฌ, ๐„๐๐ƒ, Director of Admissions and Student Affairs at the Nesbitt School of Pharmacy. Born and raised in Scranton, PA, Dr. Collins earned his Bachelor of Arts in Education from Marywood University, completed his Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration at the University of Louisville, and later earned his Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Wilkes University!

Dr. Collins joined Wilkes in 2021 and now plays a key role in shaping the student experience, from early recruitment efforts through graduation. In his role, he teaches high school students about careers in pharmacy, supports prospective students through the admissions process, and serves as a continued resource once they arrive on campus. Whether helping a student submit their application, offering guidance on academic decisions, or cheering them on at commencement, his work spans every stage of a studentโ€™s journey. His favorite part of his role is building meaningful connections with student pharmacists, serving as a mentor, and offering support as they navigate academic and personal growth!

๐ŸŒŸ Fun fact: Outside of work, Dr. Collins enjoys going for walks, watching sports, and spending time with his family.
