HAPPY WORLD SJÖGREN’S DAY 🩵

World Sjögren’s Day is held every July 23rd to mark the birthday of Dr. Henrik Sjögren, the Swedish ophthalmologist who first identified the disease in 1933. Sjögren’s primary symptom is dry eye and dry mouth. The disease is an autoimmune condition where the immune system mistakenly attacks the body’s moisture-producing glands, including those that produce tears. This can lead to a gritty, burning sensation in the eyes and in severe cases can cause vision problems. It’s a systemic, progressive autoimmune disease that can also impact the lungs, kidneys, joints, nerves, bladder, and more. And yet, it’s often dismissed, misdiagnosed, or completely ignored.

👀An estimated 4 million Americans are living with Sjögren’s—and most of them don’t even know it yet.

That’s why today matters.
Because visibility is survival.
Because education saves lives.
