Happy OT Month!

Well, that’s a wrap! 🎁 Had an amazing time at presenting my doctoral poster, meeting my professors and friends, and enjoying the camaraderie of thousands of OTs in one place.

✨✨And I was fitted for from who is an amazing human being doing all she can to support pelvic health therapists and the community we serve.

✨✨And while I was there, I took Reiki training! I now am Reiki 1 and 2 trained. It was so much fun.

Until next time…..in Anaheim!!

Menopause Awareness Month!!!

October is menopause awareness month! During pelvicon I stayed to hear the amazing speak about menopause. One of my favorite topics!

Did you know that pelvic health can help with your transition? We experience so many bodily changes during this life transition. And if you were born female, you can’t escape it!

Often we think of hot flashes, night sweats and insomnia. But we experience. So. Much. More.

Brain fog,
weight gain,
bone and muscle loss,
anxiety,
depression,
decreased ability to handle stress,
increased cholesterol,
fatigue,
joint and body pain,
increased tendon injuries (rotator cuff or hip pain anyone??),
insulin resistance,
and sets us up for chronic conditions.
Oh-and pelvic health problems.

But we can help you through. Find strategies for urgency, incontinence, painful seggs, vaginal pain and discomfort, fatigue management, appropriate exercise, coaching for nutrition changes, coping with mental health changes, resources, and referrals to our favorite healthcare providers.

You don’t have to hear- “it’s normal for your age, you just need to get through it, all women go through this”.

No-no we don’t have to. GenX, let’s make waves, let’s change the narrative! 👏👏👏

Call today, ask questions and schedule your appointment. Link in bio. We got you.

What an AMAZING experience! The OTs in Pelvic Health summit was nothing short of awesome! Lindsey Vestal, Kelsey Mathias and Heidi-you’ve outdone yourselves. Feeling all the feels ❤️

There’s nothing that describes the atmosphere when you gather passionate, knowledgeable, compassionate pelvic health providers together to learn, support, network and socialize. I caught up with old friends and made many new, connected with pioneers in the field to soak up the knowledge. My cup is full!

Today is World Maternal Mental Health Day

1 in 7 women will develop postpartum depression, even higher for women of color. Awareness is key to getting help. There are things you and your support group can do to reduce your risk and how OT can help!

- get rest and sleep! Yes, you have a newborn and of course you will be sleep deprived. But we don’t need to do it all alone. Ask for help so you can nap with baby. Split your time 50/50. 50% you sleep with baby, 50% you do self care.
- Use your support network! Ask for help, or if someone offers, take their help! Write a list of things you need most and use it to delegate when someone calls and says “How can I help? What do you need?”
-know the signs and symptoms. Unexplained pain? Don’t want to get out of bed? Sleeping ALOT? Not finding joy in what you’re doing? Feeling blue? Ask for help.
- manage pain and pelvic health! Recovering after birth is hard! And sometimes frustrating! But learning about your postpartum pelvic health and managing symptoms while your body recovers can help. Seek out a pelvic health therapist

Know you’re not alone. There are postpartum support groups, Postpartum warm lines and people who are here to support you.
