The Arc's Arc of Abilities (AoA) Day Program began a new collaboration with Williamsburg United Methodist Church's Women's circle group, Sisters in Grace, this month. AoA has worked with this group before a few times over the years, but this new collaboration will take place monthly. The theme this month was Fun and Games, and a great time was had by all involved. We look forward to sharing more about this ongoing collaboration!

A huge shout out to the team at Burns Moving And Hauling LLC. who assisted with the move from our Strawberry Plains administrative offices to our new home in McLaws Circle! Each aspect of this journey to our new building has been so exciting, and we thank them for being a part of it.

This month’s Art with Art event focused on Abstract Expressionists and featured a presentation by Arc parent and artist Art Martin followed by time creating our own works of art.

We were joined by Troop 4246 who spent time with us and helped in making our creations! It was a wonderful night and we’re grateful for all the volunteers who made it happen. Thank you to Art Martin for another enjoyable presentation and project and for being an integral part of our Arts & Culture programming, and thanks to the Williamsburg Area Arts Commission for their support!

The Arc has moved! Over the last few weeks, we’ve moved from our administrative office on Strawberry Plains into our new home in McLaws Circle. Thanks to the generosity of our Capital Campaign supporters, it’s been absolutely amazing to see our vision become reality.

Please enjoy some behind the scenes footage of the moving process - we couldn’t have done it without the helpful hands of many members of The Arc family as well as Burns moving! More to come on all that is ahead for The Arc’s new home!

A huge congratulations to Sharon's Closet, organized and led by Arc parent and community advocate Sharon Mackert, on their successful event last weekend. Attendees for the upcoming Williamsburg Night to Shine were able to pick formal wear for free to wear on the special night. Thanks to Sharon for organizing this service and we can't wait to see some of the final looks in just a few weeks!

Our Arc of Abilities (AoA) day program continues to spend time volunteering at Grove Christian Outreach Center, packing bags of non-perishable items for USDA distribution days. The team works closely with Grove staff and volunteers, and make a difference in the lives of Grove neighbors by completing an efficient (and enjoyable!) assembly process to make sure each bag is ready to give out. As a bonus, AoA members on the Grove volunteering team are often treated to goodies by some of Grove's amazing volunteers. We are grateful for the team at Grove for being amazing partners and such a valuable resource to our community.

Preparations are underway for The Arc's big move to our new building and home! We couldn't be more excited for this next chapter in our new space. As we've been packing up the current office, we've uncovered so many mementos from over the years, reminders of how far The Arc has come and how many amazing people have been involved in our organization over the last 50 years. This new home comes at a perfect time for celebrating our 50th anniversary and looking ahead to MANY more memories made!

We'll share more details in the coming days and weeks! If you'd like to learn more about The Arc's new building and support us through our ongoing Capital Campaign, visit https://www.thearcgw.org/capital-campaign-2025.

New year, new goals! We're excited to kick off a new year of programming with GYMGUYZ fitness - led by personal trainers and full of opportunities to get stronger together. Thanks to Williamsburg Health Foundation for their ongoing support of The Arc's robust fitness program, including these GymGuyz training nights.

Adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities are less likely to engage in physical activity and spend more time being sedentary than those without intellectual disabilities. This physical inactivity leads to higher rates of obesity and diabetes when compared to the general population. The Arc’s Fitness Program aims to reduce barriers to engaging in physical activity by providing fitness and wellness classes multiple times each month.
