The "Voice of the Tribe" (and Arc Board Member) Jay Colley kicked off the W&M football season with the return of the Coaches Show at Paul's Deli, hosting head coach, Mike London, and getting his forecast for the season opener. A local charity is featured at each event and The Arc of Greater Williamsburg was happy to be a part of this kick-off season opener! After a wonderful summer, we said goodbye to our Summer Intern, Emma Fuhs, as she starts her Senior Year at William & Mary. Emma joined The Arc as a City Research Scholars Intern through William & Mary's Charles Center for undergraduate research. She served in a variety of ways throughout the summer, including assisting with programs, research, our Day Program, and day-to-day operations. Emma will be missed, and we look forward to seeing her around town and at future Arc events! Thank you, Emma!

The Arc is thrilled to celebrate and congratulate Hannah Wolfe, Arc friend and member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority, who was awarded the 2025 President's Award for Service to the Community at William & Mary. The award includes a $500 donation made in the recipient’s name to a community organization of their choice, and Hannah graciously chose The Arc. Pictured is Kellie Wasson, Hannah Wolfe, and Pam McGregor at the William & Mary Opening Convocation on August 27th where Hannah was presented the award.

Hannah has been involved in our Literacy program as well as other William & Mary Greek Life events such as the annual Carnival and Harvest Dance. Hannah played an integral role in organizing Pi Beta Phi's Literacy program in Spring and Fall 2024 as well as the Carnival put on by student leaders in Fraternity & Sorority Life, among many other contributions to the Greater Williamsburg community. Congratulations, Hannah!

Arc of Abilities, The Arc's Day Program, visited the newly renovated Muscarelle Museum of Art last week. They were joined by Steve Prince, Muscarelle's Director of Engagement and Distinguished Artist in Residence, and Nick Vrettos, Docent, who both happen to be close friends of The Arc! After a tour with Nick, the group took part in an art workshop with Steve called Watercolor Monotyping. Arc of Abilities thanks Nick and Steve for welcoming them to the Muscarelle Museum and shared they were, "enlightened, entertained, and encouraged to be our best selves and do our best with our art endeavors!" Thanks to a grant from Williamsburg Area Arts Commission for making this visit possible.

We are so thankful for our volunteers who pour their time, energy, and passion into our Arc community. Each week, they show up strong and ready to serve, and are truly a part of The Arc family. We thank Madeleine (pictured below volunteering for a Fitness night, our 5k, and the concert she graciously organized and hosted to benefit The Arc) for her testimonial and for her heart for The Arc.

Last week's Art with Art was focused on Native American history and art. As always, Art's program was well-attended and full of knowledge and fun. Art shared the real story of Pocahontas, which was definitely not the fairy tale portrayed in the Disney movie. We wrapped things up with an art project of making our own headdresses. A huge thanks to Art for sharing his time, knowledge, and creativity with us! Each iteration of his program takes time to prepare and passion to present, and we are grateful for his commitment.

Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting an official launch celebration of our $2.5 million Capital Campaign to purchase The Arc's new home, a homecoming 50 years in the making. The event was held at Legacy Hall and was made possible thanks to many generous community partners, including Williamsburg Financial Group, Frothy Moon Brewhouse-Williamsburg,VA, The Fresh Market, Trader Joe's, and James City County Parks & Recreation.

We were thrilled to welcome beloved members of our community including Arc friends, colleagues, and benefactors. The event took each attendee on a journey called "From Vision to Reality," focused on the start to finish of this Capital Campaign and all the hopes we have for this new space to serve the Greater Williamsburg community and our deserving clientele.

The Arcs' Board Chair, Sue Hassan, introduced Pam McGregor, The Arc's Executive Director, who provided the evening's narrative and welcomed several speakers throughout the evening. Special thanks to Arc client and Aktion Club President, Matt Sun, Arc parent and benefactor, Wayne MacMasters, and community partners from Sentara, Dr. Cornelius Powell and Dr. Amber Price, with closing remarks by Bobby Dwyer, Arc Board member.
