About
The Greater Williamsburg HEARTSafe Alliance was formed following a Health Needs Assessment done by Sentara and Riverside. One of the main health issues affecting the Greater Williamsburg area was found to be cardiovascular health. Not long after that, the Greater Williamsburg Area was designated a HEARTSafe community. Our community then started to working to train the community in hands-only CPR and implement a rapid citizen response system to sudden cardiac arrest. Today, we continue working to improve survival of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest through training, education, and awareness.
We have numerous partners in the community including Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical center and Riverside Doctor’s hospital who partner to help bring free CPR education to the community. The local fire departments in the Greater Williamsburg community also provide an immense amount of support to the Alliance by volunteering of their time to teach CPR to the community and spearhead the implementation of the citizen rapid response system.
