3 Simple Ways to Add a Feeling of Simplicity to Your Days
1. Spend Time in Nature
With Earth Day occurring this past week it suddenly dawned on me how far we are already into Spring and I really have NOT spent much time in nature. So I went out and took some time to pick violets to make a new batch of Violet Syrup... hopefully I can find the recipe I used last year!
Do yourself a favor and ditch the screens and go outside! Spending time outdoors every day even if just for a few minutes is a lovely way to take a moment to relax, connect with the world around us, and boost our health.
Whether you choose to walk around your yard, the neighborhood, read a book, or sit among the dandelions and violets, go for a hike in a nearby park, reconnecting with nature is a powerful way to engage in simple living.
2. Practice Gratitude
I used to blog about gratitude quite a bit. I used to keep a gratitude journal in which I posted 3 things I was grateful for each day. Gratitude is powerful. I want to get back to being mindful of it. Fostering a deep sense of gratitude for the good things in your life, such as people, the natural world, things you do or have happen to you is a simple exercise AND it’s one that fills your heart with joy. It keeps us grounded.
3. Say “NO".
Saying “no” is NOT something that comes easily to many of us - definitely not ME.
We generally aim to please. We want our family and friends and colleagues to be happy. So we show up when we’re asked to attend an event, help a friend, or add something to our already busy days or do something we otherwise wouldn’t just to make others happy and demonstrate love.
But you can’t embrace simple living or live a healthy peaceful life if you’re constantly overwhelmed and have no time to slow down and relax.
Your personal time is critical and should be heavily protected. The only way we can do that is to turn down the plans and social obligations that don’t serve you or add too much to your plate.
Which of these 3 simple ways to add simplicity to your day do you think would be easiest to add? Which would be the hardest to implement?
