Facility Spotlight:
Conewago Place

Recently the clients at Conewago Place participated in a Maze. Clients are asked to enter a "maze" blindfolded with the goal being to find the way out. The only instructions they are given are to keep their blindfold on, keep a hand on the guide rope and to raise their hand if they need help.

What clients don't know is that there is no formal exit. The maze is a rope secured around 4 trees. The only way out is to ask for help. Some clients spend a very long time in the maze, some give up altogether and refuse to complete the process, and some ask for help early on.

Once the blindfolds are removed, clients watch the rest of their peers struggle with the simplicity of the maze. Once everyone exits, the clinical team then processes with everyone to show that the sooner you ask for help, the sooner you are "freed" from the maze of addiction, isolation, and frustration of trying to handle everything on your own.
