⚠️ WINTER WEATHER UPDATE – WILLIAMSTON, SC ⚠️
The latest forecasts for our area indicate the potential for significant winter weather, including dangerous ice accumulation beginning early Saturday morning and continuing throughout the weekend.
Freezing ice in the amounts predicted will very likely lead to hazardous travel conditions, long-term power outages, and impact critical infrastructure.
What residents should do now:
Avoid unnecessary travel once conditions deteriorate.
Charge phones and medical devices ahead of time.
Prepare for possible power outages (flashlights, batteries, medications).
Check on elderly neighbors and those who may need assistance.
Bring pets indoors and protect exposed pipes.
Please note that ice is particularly challenging to treat, and road conditions can change rapidly.
I want to assure you that Town of Williamston, SC, employees are as prepared as possible. Our public works, Williamston Police Department, and Williamston Fire Department have been planning ahead, checking equipment, fueling vehicles, and coordinating response efforts. Crews will respond as conditions allow, but safety for both residents and employees must remain the priority.
We will continue to monitor conditions closely and provide updates as needed. Your patience, preparedness, and cooperation are greatly appreciated.
Stay safe and look out for one another.
Mayor Rockey D. Burgess
