One of the most common things I hear from people who are curious about the wellness store is:
"Do the products actually work… or are they just all-natural alternatives that don’t clean well?”
And honestly? I get it. A lot of people assume safer products mean watered-down vinegar in a fancy bottle, toothpaste made from baking soda, or cleaners that smell “earthy” but don’t actually do the job.
That’s not what this is.
products from the Wellness Store are designed to *work*... they’re not “DIY natural” products. They’re formulated to avoid some of the harsher chemicals found in many traditional big-box cleaners, like chlorine bleach, formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, phthalates, parabens, and ammonia.
Instead, they use ingredients like plant-based solvents and enzymes that break down dirt effectively while being a safer option for your home.
Personally, my house feels cleaner, smells fresher, and my favorite part? I’m not breathing in harsh fumes or wondering what’s getting on my skin every time I wipe down my counters.
It really makes you think… if there’s a safer option that still works, why keep using products linked to things like hormone disruption, respiratory irritation, and long-term health concerns?
👇 I shared a few examples below of ingredients that are commonly found in household products and why I choose to avoid them. Have you ever looked at what’s actually in the cleaners under your sink?
Ingredients that many traditional household cleaners may contain and why I choose to avoid them:
🧴 Chlorine Bleach
Bleach is often seen as the gold standard for “clean,” but it’s a harsh chemical that can irritate or permanently damage skin and eyes if mishandled. Its fumes can also irritate the lungs and respiratory system, especially for people with asthma or sensitivities. One of the biggest concerns is that when mixed with other cleaners (like ammonia), it can create dangerous toxic gases. (also makes me break out in hives even if I'm within 5 feet of it!!!)
🧪 Formaldehydes
Formaldehyde and formaldehyde-releasing preservatives are used in some products to prevent bacterial growth, but exposure can cause irritation to the eyes, skin, and throat. Repeated or long-term exposure has been studied for its connection to certain cancers, which is why many people prefer to limit contact when possible.
🌿 Phthalates !!!!!!
Phthalates are commonly found in products with synthetic fragrance and are used to help scents last longer. The concern is that they are known endocrine disruptors, meaning they can interfere with hormones in the body. Studies have linked them to potential reproductive, developmental, and other long-term health concerns.
🌸 Parabens
Parabens are preservatives used to extend shelf life in many personal care and household products. They can mimic estrogen in the body, which has raised concerns about hormone disruption. Because of this, many people choose to avoid them, especially in products they use daily around their home and family.
💨 Ammonia
Ammonia is a strong cleaning agent found in many glass and surface cleaners. While effective, it can be extremely irritating to the nose, throat, lungs, and skin. Frequent exposure to the fumes can be harsh, and direct contact can burn or damage tissue.
For me, it’s not about fear... it’s about awareness. If there are products that clean effectively without exposing my family to ingredients like these, that feels like a better choice for our home. ❤️
