Last week, members of our Northtowns Ambulatory Surgery Center (NASC) team had the opportunity to attend an educational dinner with representatives for Journavx, a first-in-class, non-opioid oral medication approved by the FDA in January 2025.

Our pre- and post-op nurses, pharmacist, and one of our physician assistants joined the discussion to learn more about how this relatively new medication works and how it can support patient care. The evening provided valuable insight into how this non-opioid option can be used safely and effectively for appropriate candidates.

At NASC, we know that continuing education and collaboration are key to providing the highest quality care. Thank you to everyone who attended this dinner. Opportunities like this help our team stay informed so we can better educate and support our patients before and after surgery!

A valued member of UBMD Physicians' Group and UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, Dr. Rachala is a highly skilled orthopaedic surgeon who brings advanced expertise to our community, helping patients overcome complex joint issues and improve mobility and quality of life.

Dr. Rachala is board-certified and fellowship-trained, with a subspecialty focus on challenging cases — including infections and complex revisions — as well as improving outcomes for primary joint replacement. His dedication to innovation and patient-centered care drives him to continually refine surgical techniques and enhance recovery.

Physician Spotlight: Helen Potter, MD — Vascular Surgery 👩‍⚕️

At Northtowns Ambulatory Surgery Center, we’re proud to work with exceptional surgeons — including Dr. Helen Potter, a vascular surgeon whose expertise strengthens our commitment to top‑tier patient care.

A member of UBMD Physicians' Group and UBMD Surgery, Dr. Potter completed a research fellowship in complex endovascular aortic repairs and has been recognized for her contributions during training at the University at Buffalo. She is board‑certified in General Surgery and board‑eligible in Vascular Surgery, and she’s certified to interpret vascular laboratory studies, helping patients with conditions related to arteries, veins and circulation.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Potter serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University at Buffalo, participates in research, and has authored work in peer‑reviewed journals.

Whether diagnosing vascular conditions or performing minimally invasive and open procedures, Dr. Potter brings skill, compassion and attention to every patient’s care journey.
