๐ŸŽ‰ Dysautonomia Clinic Research Team is excited to share our new study on autonomic dysfunction and comorbidities in h- and hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSD)! The study found significant autonomic dysfunction in women with h-EDS/HSD, which was more severe than in patients with multiple sclerosis, diabetic neuropathy, scleroderma, and psoriatic arthritis. Quality of life was also worse than in patients with POTS, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and lupus. 25% of patients had a clinical triad of EDS, POTS and MCAS. โ€ผ๏ธ

It's possible that even generic drugs will be or are already affected by Pharma changing their processing or using cheaper ingredients in an attempt to cut cost. If you've recently experienced new side effects from medications of the same brand that you've been taking for years, let us know in the comments!

President Donald Trump announced Thursday that brand-name or patented pharmaceutical products will be subject to a 100% tariff starting October 1 โ€“ unless the drugmaker is building a manufacturing plant in the US.

Question for patients who take atenolol by Teva USA or another brand: have you noticed new-onset body tingling after taking atenolol whereas that didn't happen in the past when you took this medication? A few of our patients developed new-onset body tingling (paresthesia) within a few hours of taking atenolol, a side effect that they never experienced before on this brand so we're trying to determine if Teva changed their atenolol formulation recently. Thanks!

๐Ÿ™ Thanks to Newsweek for their report on POTS and interviewing Dr. Blitshteyn and other top specialists. Dr. Svetlana Blitshteyn said, "POTS can often be misdiagnosed with anxiety, depression, panic disorder, anemia, dehydration and many others, so when a doctor doesn't know much about POTS, they are most likely to misdiagnose it."

Dr. Blair Grubb added: "It's very unfortunate because these people are mistreated and ignored, and I think the real reason is many of them are women. If this was a disease principally in men, it would be taken more seriously." ๐ŸŽฏ๐Ÿ’ฏ

PoTS results in a wide range of symptoms, particularly when standing, such as increased heart rate, chest pain and feeling faint.

โ€ผ๏ธ Read this paper describing a large case series of patients with mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS) and comorbidities, whose MCAS-associated symptoms improved significantly on GLP1 agonists.

๐Ÿ“Œ To summarize:
โœ”๏ธ 47 patients (mean age 39, range 15โ€“71, 89% female) included - all from the co-authors who are experts in MCAS and comorbidities, including from our Dysautonomia Clinic!
โœ”๏ธ 89% of patients demonstrated clinical benefit with GLP-1RAs for a broad range of problems associated with MCAS.
โœ”๏ธ Obviously, GLP-1RAs were used for overweight, obesity, type 2 DM and off label by patients who could afford them.
โœ”๏ธ No major adverse events occurred, GLP-1RAs were well-tolerated in this case series
โœ”๏ธ Randomized controlled trials are needed to determine whether GLP-1RAs are effective - and at what dose - in patients with MCAS.
