Our Beginnings

Beach-Tuyn Funeral Home, Inc. began in 1848 as a furniture store by Demetre Wherle. As was custom at that time, furniture makers would be engaged as casket makers, and eventually the fashion of wakes being held outside the family home began. The need for funeral parlours was born. Fast forward to today and Beach-Tuyn is still providing services for the community.

Gregg S. Berwick has been with Beach-Tuyn since 1986, beginning as a resident with the former owner, Peter Tuyn. Upon Peter’s retirement in 2007, Gregg became owner of the business continuing the service and dedication to the Village and surrounding areas. Gregg’s easygoing sincerity is one his most often commented on trait when dealing with families going through difficult and overwhelming times. Not only does he personally relate to the grief of others, he is now dealing with families he has known for over 30 years. He understands it is his job to guide these children and grandchildren as he did with their elders while feeling his own sense of loss for their parents and grandparents. Gregg also welcomes newcomers with open arms, recognizing their choices in funeral homes are many. Beach-Tuyn’s reputation, as well as Gregg’s, as dedicated and dignified continues.
