If you watch a lot of lymphatic drainage videos on TikTok, chances are you’ve mostly seen the Brazilian technique. It’s fast, deep, and looks like a really intense massage.
You probably haven’t seen Vodder as much because it just doesn’t look as…interesting. It’s light, gentle, and is not massage.
So which one works better?
The answer is: both have their purposes.
Vodder (in video) (also called Manual Lymphatic Drainage) is the technique most widely recognized in the US and Europe. Both Western and Holistic Doctors recommend this for post-surgery, chronic illness management, hormone balancing, and more. You have to be certified in order to offer it. It may feel subtle, but it’s extremely powerful as our superficial lymphatic system is just right under the skin- you don’t want to go too hard.
It’s important to note that if you’re expecting massage, Vodder will feel like NOTHING. But that doesn’t mean it’s doing nothing! Sometimes the MOST power is in subtlety. High intensity is not always the way, and American culture still has a long way to go in accepting that.
Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage is what is widely used in South America, both in medical and non-medical settings. It’s designed to target our deep lymphatic system. It’s satisfying and packs a punch, and has more of an immediate slimming effect. While you don’t need a certification in the US, many practitioners do get their training in Brazil, where it is more regulated.
I am certified in the Vodder Technique, let's get you feeling better, today!
