SEE BELOW For Details:

➡️ We all miss Dr. Katie!! She is enjoying her maternity leave and will be back early this summer. In the meantime, Elizabeth Mauntler will be filling in for her and covering F2P pelvic health clients as well as incoming new clients with orthopedic and spine conditions.

➡️ WELCOME ELIZABETH MAUNTLER!!!

Elizabeth Mauntler, PT, OCS, Dip. MDT, graduated from the University of Vermont in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy. She became a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist in 2016. She became certified in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy in 2021 and attained Diploma status in November of 2023.

She first became interested in physical therapy as a high school athlete undergoing two ACL surgeries. As injuries at any age can be emotionally and physically trying, Elizabeth now credits these events with leading her into the field of rehab and fostering a desire to help individuals of all abilities return to what they love.

Elizabeth has worked and volunteered with adaptive sports programs in New England and Colorado, and these experiences continue to inspire her to share the power of physical activity with patients of all ages and abilities. A longtime proponent of wholistic health and the value of integrating multiple modalities, she is both a certified Lymphedema and Massage Therapist. As a mother of two, she became interested in pelvic health and has completed training through Herman and Wallace in this area.

Outside of physical therapy, Elizabeth enjoys spending time with her husband, daughters, and spoiled 3-year-old Vizsla. She stays active in all seasons with running, mountain biking, and skiing.

➡️ Good Luck Dr. KC Bruch! KC will be ending at Fit2Perform mid Feb and starting her next post grad learning experience. We have enjoyed having KC for her first 3 years and wish her luck as she experiences new challenges.
☑️ Note: Dr. Erin is available and will be accepting all of KC’s clients. Her schedule will be opening up and accommodating more hours M-F. Current clients will be prioritized and both KC and Erin have worked hard to communicate on care plans.

Calling all FEMALE ATHLETES! It’s time to include your PELVIC FLOOR in the conversation about your amazing power as an A.T.H.L.E.T.E.

What is the pelvic floor exactly?
The pelvic floor is the group of muscles that sits between your two pelvic bones supporting not only organ function, control of bowel/bladder, sexual function but also STABILITY the hip and spine!!
It also works with your diaphragm to influence your breath and intra abdominal pressure. Have you heard of bracing your core? If you’re an athlete, I bet you have! This cannot be done without your pelvic floor.

If you do not have awareness and control of your pelvic floor it can lead to:

- incontinence during exercise
- pelvic pain
- constipation
- hip and back pain
- strength imbalances
- ineffective breath
- weakness or difficulty lifting weights
- lack of confidence in athletics
- altered performance in athletics

In a study published by the NIH, out of 679 women of fertile age, practicing recreational sports activity, 31% reported Urinary Incontinence (UI) during sports activity and 47.5% during daily life. Even more alarming, 10% of women abandoned their favorite sport because of UI and 20% limited their sport to avoid episodes of leakage!
What does this mean? You are not alone and we should be talking about this as openly as shoulder health, deadlifting form and squat depth!

If you have been struggling or think you might be struggling with pelvic floor dysfunction - reach out to Fit2Perform today for and assessment and treatment PLAN.

👇Curious About Dry Needling?

📌 What is Dry Needling?
Dry needling is a non-medicated, non-injection technique used to address pain and movement issues. Our skilled therapists use thin filiform needles to target trigger points and myofascial tissues, providing relief and improved mobility.

🎯 Trigger Points Explained
Trigger points are taut bands of muscle within larger muscle groups, often causing discomfort. Our precise dry needling approach can help alleviate these issues and even refer pain to other areas of the body.

👩‍⚕️ Why Choose Dry Needling?
Dry needling can release or inactivate trigger points to relieve pain or improve range of motion. Research suggests that dry needling improves pain control and reduces muscle tension. Study findings also show that dry needling can normalize dysfunctions of the motor end plates, from which nerve impulses get transmitted to muscles. This can help speed up the patient's return to active rehab.

🔍 Our Expertise
Our physical therapists are not only well-versed in anatomy and body treatment, but they've also undergone specific postgraduate education and training in dry needling.

Whether you're dealing with persistent pain or seeking enhanced mobility, consider dry needling as a valuable part of your rehabilitation journey.

Reach out to us for more information and to schedule your dry needling session. 💪

🔊 Snap! Crackle! Pop! 🔊

Do you often hear cracking, popping, grinding, or clicking when you move your joints? Do your knees click when you squat? 🤔

Crepitus is the term we use to describe these noises.

The noises are usually due to:

💨Formation of air bubbles in the joints

🦴Tendons moving or sliding over your bone

Noisy joints do NOT mean you have arthritis. 🚫

So, should you be worried that your joints are making noise?

This is a question we get often in the clinic. The short answer is, if there's no pain, then there's no reason for concern.

The body is made up of many MOVING parts, so noises coming from the joints are more physiological (normal function of the body) than pathological. Now, if noise coming from your joints is associated with pain, swelling, or discomfort, then it's time to seek help and figure out what is causing those symptoms. 💡

Remember, moving your joints daily is the best way to ensure your joints stay healthy! 💪🏋️‍♀️

⭐️ ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT: ⭐️ 🐎

Alex is a young and impressive athlete who has been riding horses since 3 yo! Talk about a natural! She started in the hunter jumper & dressage disciplines and then discovered the sport of Polo in 2016. She was drawn to the fast and exciting nature, teamwork and getting to work on/with many different horses. Currently horses are her profession having established Amdez Farm LLC .farm in 2022 offering boarding, training and lessons for Vermonters. Here she trains her polo horses and introduces others to the equestrian sport. If you get a chance, check her and her team out on the Shelburne Polo Field from May-Oct during a polo match! 🐎🐎🐎🏅

Here is what Alex has to say about her experience with Fit2Perform:
"After a shoulder injury from polo, Erin spent countless hours helping me rehab through dry needling, massage, other manual techniques, stretches, and strengthening. Through my recovery she has helped me to maintain strength, and even developed a warm-up routine using my polo mallet that I do before I play. She has taught me a lot about posture and using your body correctly. Erin has helped me though numerous other small injuries and pains. My time at Fit2Perform has improved my polo and helped me to feel my best. I can’t recommend them enough!"

Thank you Alex! We appreciate you!!!

‼️Leaking with exercise?

Peeing during running, double unders, Olympic lifting or box jumps?

Leaking with exercise is WAY more common than you think and is not just experienced by those who are newly postpartum.

Management of core pressure is 🔑🔑

Mismanaging pressure can be influenced by a number of factors:

1. Pelvic Floor Coordination - Do you know what your pelvic floor is doing when you are lifting? Do you know how to coordinate your diaphragm with your pelvic floor? Are you bracing and lifting or bearing down?🫁

2. Breathing mechanics : breathing strategies help manage pressure in your core and can reduce pelvic floor stress. You should be able to coordinate pelvic floor relaxation and activation with movement and breathing. Do you know what breathing strategies increase pressure and what breathing strategies create less pressure? 🩻

3. Strength - do you have appropriate strength in your pelvic floor, glutes, abdominals, back muscles, hip musculature and foot/arch 💪🏻

4. Posture - Rib cage positioning, lumbar pelvic tilt, abdominal and/or glute gripping, and arch/foot control the can all affect how our body absorbs impact.

5. Pelvic floor tone- sometimes weakness is the issue but other times too much tone/increased tension in the pelvic floor can result in incontinence. Are you able to relax your pelvic floor, does your pelvic floor reflexively lengthen to absorb force?

👆🏼If you struggle with any of the above, we can help! We now offer pelvic health services! ✅

🤔What is neutral?

Neutral isn't a straight line.

There are natural curves to your spine. Spinal Neutral (being stacked) can be a range.

It can include slight extension or flexion depending on the purpose of the movement. Never going beyond > 5-10 degrees and always within control of the athlete (awareness of position).

When the curves of your spine are over-extenuated, it can lead unwanted stress on structures that are not equip to handle tensile or compressive forces. Repetitive stress on unprepared tissue can lead to mechanical breakdown.

Spinal movement competency is essential for high performing athletes. Athletes should be able to find and hold neutral as well as know how to move through their end ranges of spinal flexion and extension with good control and strength.🏋🏻‍♂️

Do you know how to find neutral?
