Jenna Torborg, a student dietitian from the University of North Dakota, recently completed her semester with the inpatient clinical dietitian team at Trinity Health in Minot.
During her time at Trinity Health, Jenna had the opportunity to learn alongside an incredible team, guided by her preceptor, Kayla Benson. Reflecting on her experience, Jenna shared:
“This past semester, I had the privilege of learning from an exceptional preceptor, Kayla Benson, an inpatient clinical dietitian, at Trinity Health Hospital in Minot, North Dakota. Kayla’s willingness to share her knowledge, experiences and perspective made a meaningful impact on both my personal and professional development. She fosters a supportive learning environment that helped me build confidence in my skills and strengthen my clinical judgement, while always encouraging thoughtful questions and critical thinking.
Through this experience, Kayla not only helped me expand my clinical knowledge in nutrition care, but also showed me the importance of compassionate, patient-centered care. Observing the way she approaches patient interactions, collaborates with the healthcare team, and navigates complex clinical situations has provided an invaluable example of the kind of professional I aspire to become.
Alongside Kayla, I would also like to thank Desire’e Steinberger, the Director of Nutrition Services, and the team of inpatient clinical dietitians I had the opportunity to work with as well – Angela, McKenzie, Michelle and Derek. Your continuous guidance, patience in answering countless questions, and the advice you all shared will always be appreciated. Learning from such a supportive and knowledgeable team made this experience so meaningful.
I am incredibly grateful for the mentorship and encouragement you all have provided throughout this experience. Thank you for making such a positive impact on my education and future career as a nutrition professional."
👏 Thank you to our dedicated team for fostering the next generation of healthcare professionals. Best of luck to Jenna as she continues her journey!
