Wrote an easy, short, and actionable sequence of movements 💪 to get things going for a remote client 📈.

These small and consistent sequences were sprinkled within their program as this felt the easiest way to consistently move things around regardless of travel, work schedule, etc.

I’ve had this question come up in a variety of skills sessions, PT appts, and general conversations.

Often when talking about activation of a particular area (most talked about muscle is 🍑 with second being🦇), folks are referring often to “feeling” the area work. Here’s the thing:
➡️ muscles work whether you feel even if they’re not felt
➡️ you need to have a serious nerve injury to not have a muscle work. If your glutes are not “working” or “firing”, you would not be able to walk.
➡️ the task likely has too many parts involved and doesn’t isolate the given area as much (I.e. squat vs. hamstring curl - you’ll probably really feel your hamstring a lot in the latter).

Okay…so what??

So, if you want to feel an area work you could choose a movement that:
➡️ biases the workload to that area you’re looking to feel
➡️ creates movement through a large/full range in the bones and joints where the muscle connects.
➡️ try not to steal range of motion from neighboring areas

How lucky are we to have the team that we have here at 802?! Talking about a holistic approach to health and fitness is one thing, but with practitioners like Casey available to help athletes excel through all phases of their fitness journey, our community is actually able to put it all into practice.

Casey’s recent CrossFit and Pregnancy workshop was just one clear example: with the right tools and resources, attendees were able to walk away feeling empowered and supported to take a holistic, smart, and fun approach to staying healthy and moving throughout pregnancy.
