As some may be aware, Kings & Queens Within Us serves as a grief support group. Personally, I experienced a devastating loss in 2002 with the passing of my infant son, Moses Shaquille Sims. The pain of his loss was profound, and it took many years for me to come to terms with my grief. In fact, it wasn't until many years later that I was able to begin working on his tombstone. In 2018, my eldest son, Keziah Sims, and I collaborated on designing the tombstone. Tragically, Keziah was murdered shortly thereafter, causing another significant delay in the placement of Moses' tombstone. Dealing with the aftermath of Keziah's murder necessitated yet another grieving process. However, as I navigated my own healing journey, I recognized the importance of self-care and prioritizing my own needs. Part of this process involved completing the unfinished tasks related to my children's burials. In October 2024, I contacted the monument company to finalize Moses' tombstone, a task that held great sentimental value as it was the last thing Keziah and I had worked on together. Following the completion of the design, I was invited to view the tombstone before its placement. Although I had anticipated this moment would bring closure, I was uncertain if I was emotionally prepared. On April 24, 2025, my sister, Kyramika Davis, accompanied me to the monument company, where I was relieved to learn that the tombstone had been delivered to the graveyard for placement. Receiving this news brought me a profound sense of peace and satisfaction, as I realized that completing this task had finally laid my fears to rest. Rather than exposing my grief, the experience allowed me to appreciate the beauty of completion and find solace in the knowledge that my heart was finally at peace.

Today, I feel fulfilled. As of May 31, 2025, I have achieved something of immense value. Although the process was arduous and challenging, I persevered. Through this journey, I shed layers of my former self, revealing a new and improved version. I approached this endeavor with determination, intent on emerging victorious. I have learned that assumptions can lead to setbacks. During my attendance at church in a small country town, Pastor Bishop Lamb wisely advised our congregation that one never knows who might be observing them. I was part of a group of twenty-one exceptional classmates, four coaches, two coordinators, and Former Mayor Michael R. White. In this setting, I chose to be vulnerable, and this vulnerability has yielded significant accomplishments. Specifically, I achieved in a short time what had taken me twenty years to accomplish previously. Through these accomplishments, I have discovered that completion does not necessarily mean closure; rather, it signifies that I have addressed essential matters and, in doing so, taken care of myself. Upon completing the sixteen-week program, I not only inspired myself, but I also witnessed the inspiration in my new colleagues' eyes, actions, and words. I extend my gratitude to all of them. I would particularly like to thank my husband and family, who provide me with the motivation to push forward, especially on days filled with wonder and new possibilities.
