Heat therapy works by improving circulation and blood flow to a particular area.
Increasing the temperature of the afflicted area even slightly can soothe discomfort and increase muscle flexibility.
If your pain, however, is especially acute, we recommend coupling heat therapy with some hands on help from a medical professional :)

Many people notice their back feels stiff or sore after a long day at a desk. Sitting for prolonged periods can increase pressure on spinal discs and reduce circulation to muscles that support the spine.

Studies have shown that seated posture can place more pressure on lumbar discs than standing, particularly when posture is slouched (Wilke et al., Spine Journal).

That’s why movement breaks throughout the day are so important. Even standing, stretching, or walking for a few minutes every hour can help reduce stiffness and improve spinal health.

Modern lifestyles make posture harder than ever. Three of the most common issues we see are forward head posture, rounded shoulders, and prolonged sitting.

When the head shifts forward even a few inches, the load on the cervical spine increases significantly. Research from Hansraj (Surgical Technology International) suggests that looking down at a phone can place up to 60 pounds of pressure on the neck depending on the angle.
