Most brides feel the need to quickly change their bodies for their wedding day the moment they get engaged. This hyper focus on your weight can spiral out of control, leaving you obsessed with & controlled by the number on the scale, anxious about food & your body, and distracted from what actually matters during your engagement season. I am not saying the desire to look and feel beautiful on your wedding day is wrong, I’m just saying maybe there’s another way to achieve that without putting your body through the ringer.

Hi beautiful brides! I wanted to introduce the face behind Tūla Bridal! This is me, Callan, on my wedding day in 2019 (take me back!)

I understand the pressures brides face to look perfect on their wedding day. From the moment we get engaged, we start thinking about what diet we need to go on, or what exercise program we need to start. I created Tūla Bridal as a part of my nutrition business to empower brides to reject these pressures and establish balance in the way we approach caring for our bodies during our engagement season. Yep, I said it. I’m a registered dietitian and I’m telling you to throw that thing out. The only detox/cleanse we need is from things that no longer serve us, things that make us feel negatively, & things that control us.

I work with brides to take the focus away from the scale, lean into how they physically feel, and to listen and respond to the body’s needs. The type of transformation that happens from this work is life changing.

Hey bride, I’ve been there. The pressure to change your body for your wedding day is real. I felt the same pressures, and admittedly gave in to them at times (we are all human). But the truth is, I knew I wanted to ENJOY my engagement year and not spend hours working out, counting everything I ate, or staring at myself in the mirror thinking about ways to change my body.

Hey bride, your character and morality is not impacted by the foods you eat.

A question I ask clients when working toward food freedom is: does eating that food make you morally a bad person?

Often their answer is a quick “well, no..”.

Guilt and shame are emotions tied to morality. So why do we label ourselves as “good” or “bad” based on what we eat one day. An example of this might be if you ate out a few times this last weekend and then on Monday say to a coworker “oh I was so bad this weekend”. Were you actually bad? As in were you a bad person?

Unless you stole the food you ate, or hurt someone in the process of eating that food, eating the food in no way impacted your morality.

A Monday reminder that food has no more value. Save this post for a day when you are feeling guilt and shame associated to your food. 🤍
