When in conflict with any person, provide validation to de-escalate the situation. People become upset when they feel misunderstood or disrespected. This shows that you care about their feelings.

Mental Health and Substance Abuse Counseling

Feeling down? When you have been experiencing negative emotions, it is important to purposefully provide yourself with positive experiences to increase positive emotions. In the short-term this provides relief. In the long-term, it helps you build "a life worth living." If you have been feeling low for a long time, this may take practice. You may have to be intentional about including positive-emotion-inducing activities into your day.

We’re here because we care!
A Helping Hand of Wilmington is a substance abuse/mental health agency that opened in 2007. While we are considered a mid-sized agency, serving approximately 600 people currently; we operate like the small, family owned practice that we began as. There have been many changes in Wilmington and in our field over the last ten years, but we have managed to stay true to our values. We are not a huge corporate behavioral health entity serving thousands and thousands of people and opening offices all over the state. We have no intention of pursuing that, even though we could have, because we believe in concentrating on quality services provided in a small homelike setting where we know our clients well and care about their goals. We have two locations for the convenience of our clients; one in Wilmington and one in Leland. We do our best to help you achieve the positive outcomes in your life you are striving for. We respect your journey and care about you!
