Most scholars agree that Halloween originated around 2,000 years ago, when Celtic people in Europe celebrated the end of the harvest and the start of a new year in a festival called Samhain. 🍃🎃
We wish you a fun, cozy, and safe Halloween. 👻
Allow your creative side to shine by trying something new this week ✨
Did you know…
🚨 First responders are 5x more likely to experience depression and PTSD
🚨 First responders can be reluctant to seek out mental health services out of fear of negative repercussions or fear of being demoted/fired
Today, on National First Responders Day, we thank our police officers, firefighters, EMS, paramedics, 911 dispatchers, and all individuals who protect our community and those within them in the early stages of an emergency.
We must continue to advocate and lower the stigma of seeking out mental health care for our first responders! Thank you for your service. ♥️

✨ Meet Dr. Stebnicki ✨
“New understanding and awareness springs forth a renewed purpose for one’s life. The attitudinal and perceptual shift transforms a sense of peaceful resolve, mending the mind, body, and spirit.” - Mark A. Stebnicki, 2020 Clinical Military Counseling: Guidelines for Practice.
Dr. Stebnicki’s passion for working with our military and first responder population was rooted at an early age as a military family member himself. Here’s what he has to say about the responsibility:
“The defining characteristics of providing mental health services to service members, veterans, and military families is understanding the unique medical, psychosocial, mental health, vocational, and career transition aspects of this unique culture. Earning the circle of trust is the cornerstone of achieving an optimal working alliance. Being a military family member and mental health practitioner has allowed me the opportunity to see firsthand the sacrifices, leadership qualities, and resiliency traits that the men and women in and out of uniform have made in military and civilian life.”
Dr. Stebnicki is accepting new clients for in-person and telehealth appointments! He accepts most private insurances including TriCare Select and VACC.

“The other thing recovery can be, is messy. I show clients two charts, which I make up on the spot. I’m not an artist, and I don’t pretend to be one. The first is what clients and family members expect recovery to be like, which is a straight line moving up. They say, “Yeah, that’s what I want! That’s what I expect.” Then I show them another chart that is messy, yet still moving up. When I show clients this chart, I hear “YES! That is how it feels like.” The trajectory is the same; one just looks messy. It’s that mess that we are doing as clinicians to help our clients with. And it’s a very humbling position to be in.”

Each month, our therapists join together virtually for a group titled “Person of the Therapist”.
The foundation of this group was formed by the belief that the Person of the Therapist is who we are and what we bring to the therapy moment. We need to be aware of our presence and situation personally in order to be present with another for therapy to take place. It’s our responsibility to care for our own soul in order to do soul work with another. ✨
In short, you can’t pour from an empty cup. Take care of you. 🫶🏻

The leading ladies of One-Eighty Counseling attended The Wilmington Chamber of Commerce 2023 Women’s Professional Development Luncheon where Dr. Melissa Furman delivered a remarkable presentation centered on unlocking your organizations potential by investing in the development of your employees. With 400+ women in the room, there were moments of silence, laughter, and awe in response to topics such as burnout in the workplace, generational differences, women’s challenges in the workplace, and unconscious biases. (plus way more!)
Here’s what Sarah and Jenn had to say about attending ☺️
Sarah R. Coates, LCMHC, Founder and President: “For me, the main take away from the presentation was that leaders must make sure they stay relevant in order to effectively lead their companies. Leadership styles and strategies from the past most likely do not work in the current business climate nor will they work in the future. Leaders have to be humble enough to make changes to remain effective and stay relevant.”
Jennifer Latsha, Director of Operations: “What a beneficial time it was hearing new ideas about how to be an effective leader in today’s generation! I took away a lot of great tidbits of advice and looking forward to implementing them for the benefit of all at One80!”
Leaders never stop learning. 💕
All this to say, the more we invest, support, and develop our team, the better and more optimal care we can provide for our clients. 🫶🏻
