Next in the spotlight is Dr. Kaelyn Adams, who joined Brandywine Eye to provide excellent care alongside Dr. Shyu.

Dr. Adams was raised in San Antonio, Texas, and graduated from the Rosenberg School of Optometry in San Antonio. She went on to complete a residency here in Delaware, specializing in ocular disease with a focus on glaucoma and retinal disease. In addition to her specialty care, Dr. Adams also helps patients with all their glasses and contact lens needs.

When she’s not caring for patients, Dr. Adams enjoys spending time with her husband and their dachshund, Potato. She loves traveling — with a recent trip to Iceland as a favorite highlight — and is also an avid coffee drinker who can always recommend the best local coffee shops.

In honor of National Dog Day yesterday, we’re excited to introduce the beloved pups who proudly serve as the unofficial mascots of Brandywine Eye.

Doug – Dr. Shyu’s fun-loving corgi and best friend for many years. Doug never turns down playtime and can always be found with a tennis ball nearby.

Potato – Dr. Adam’s mini dachshund and true heart-stealer. You’ll usually find Potato curled up for a snooze or happily enjoying a pup cup.

Rosie – Coming soon! Dr. Strauss’ adorable Cavalier King Charles, and we’re already smitten.

At Brandywine Eye Center, we believe in celebrating the people who make your experience truly special. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be introducing our incredible team — one member at a time — so you can get to know the faces behind your care.

First up, meet the MVP himself — Dr. Shyu!

In 2021, Dr. Shyu took over Brandywine Eye Center and has made it a place patients trust and love. Originally from California, he graduated from Drexel and specializes in cataract surgery and refractive corrective surgery, while also providing comprehensive eye exams.

Outside of the office, Dr. Shyu enjoys spending time with his wife, young son, and their corgi, Doug (who’s always learning new tricks). A lifelong sports fan, he’s recently fallen in love with tennis, and he also enjoys traveling whenever he can. Fun fact: Dr. Shyu is fluent in both Mandarin and Spanish, making it easy for him to connect with patients on many levels.
