MedNorth Health Center receives federal grant funds awarded by the United States Department of Health and Human Services' ("DHHS") Health Resources and Services Administration ("HRSA") pursuant to Section 330 of the U. Public Health Service Act ("Section 330"), 42 U.S.C. ' 254b, to provide a full spectrum of primary and preventative health care services (including essential ancillary and enabling

services) to medically underserved populations, in New Hanover and surrounding counties in Southeastern North Carolina. Patients receive services regardless of the individuals or families ability to pay. Our service is designed to cover prenatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric life cycles. In 1993, MedNorth (formerly New Hanover Community Health Center) was incorporated as a non-profit organization in the State of North Carolina and also received a 501(c) (3) Internal Revenue Service Classification. During the same year a grant application was submitted to the U. Public Health Service, Bureau of Primary Health Care, using the data from a needs assessment as a basis for a grant, to open a community health center. The grant application was funded. New Hanover Community Health Center saw our first patient in the spring of 1994. We have been in continuous service since that year. Our target population is individuals and families at or below 200% of the federal poverty level. Our charges for this population are based on a sliding fee scale that takes into consideration the number of persons in the family and their total income. We provide primary health care to anyone coming to us for care. We accept almost all insurances, Medicaid and Medicare. We will handle all the paper work for you.

Starting Dec.1, more people can get health care coverage in NC through Medicaid. It can take up to 45 days to process your application. You can help the process go faster by applying online at epass.nc.gov. You may be contacted by mail, phone, or email if more information is needed.

Starting Dec. 1, more North Carolinians can get health care coverage through Medicaid. You are eligible if you are 19-64 years old and your income is up to 138% of the Federal Poverty Level. And if you were eligible before, you still are. Nothing changes for you.

Starting Dec. 1, more people will be eligible for health care coverage through NC Medicaid. Visit epass.nc.gov to keep your contact information up to date, check health care coverage or apply. You can also contact your local DSS office (ncdhhs.gov/localDSS) if you're unable to apply online.

MedNorth had its first Community Baby Shower Event!

The past week we celebrated the knowledge, skills, and positive attitudes our prenatal patients gained during our Childbirth Education Class Series (CBE).

The CBE classes help prepare mothers and their families for pregnancy, labor, and delivery. We are so happy that the mothers had a positive learning experience and environment with the recent series and baby shower.

We want to thank MedNorth's Women's Health Team, donors, sponsors, and volunteers who have helped make this event possible! We look forward to another series next year.

The Barbershop Initiative promotes health, and wellness, answering questions and connecting patrons to healthcare resources at local barbershops.

This Friday, November 11th, MedNorth will be at Big Redd's Barbershop from 2 PM to 4 PM, so stop by and see us! It's a great time to get a haircut and bring a loved one with you to take the initiative in your health! See the poster for more details.
