August is Psoriasis Awareness Month. Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease that is characterized by a proliferation of skin cells leading to visible discolored itchy patches or plaques on the skin. While psoriasis can occur anywhere on the body, it is most common on elbows, knees, scalp, hands, feet, and nails. The exact cause of psoriasis is thought to be related to our genetics, immune system, and environment. While there is no cure for psoriasis, it can be managed with topical medications and in some cases systemic therapies. We recommend follow-up with your Dermatologist to determine your best treatment course. If you do not have a dermatologist Coastal Dermatology is always accepting new patients, give us a call at 910-343-0626 to schedule your appointment now!
